Default Can metrogel cause/worsen rosacea when discontinued?

I have previously posted that, despite numerous visits to dermatologists, I haven't been positively diagnosed with either rosacea or seb derm. I don't understand why it is so hard to diagnose. They have said I "might" have one or the other or both. Lovely.

Anyway, I have been using metrogel on one side of my face for the last two weeks now, to see if I show an improvement. If so, I must conclude I have rosacea. So far, nothing to note but I know it takes a while.

But I have been thinking that if I notice no improvement on the side I am using the metrogel and I discontinue, say after 12 weeks or so, will there be adverse consequences to my skin from stopping. Any advice would be appreciated, as always.

You could have both seb derm and rosacea. I think like 40% of people with rosacea have seb derm

Of course, if you don't show any improvement with the Metrogel, that doesn't prove that you don't have rosacea. I don't think most people are improved very much by Metrogel or we wouldn't all be here on this forum. Metrogel has made me and others worse while using it. More redness, more pimples, burning.

If it doesn't help, then why do the dermatologists say so confidently that they can control rosacea?

I think it can control the acne part of rosacea. But it does nothing for the flushing

Because when people get discouraged and don't go back to the doctor, the doctors think they've cured them. Also, Metrogel and antibiotics are all most doctors know about how to treat rosacea. Treatment for rosacea is still in the Dark Ages as far as the average practitioner is concerned. Metrogel doesn't even cure pimples and papules for many people. It made me so much worse. I got little pimples all over my face and had to stop after 3 days.

If it is used early enough in the progression of rosacea, it can HELP, but it doesn't cure, or put into remission, IMHO. I used it very early on a few years ago and it was fine. I can't use it now. Does nothing and irritates.
