    Default Photodynamic Therapy

Hello, I thought I had read alot about lasers and IPL. However I was talking to a local derm today who uses Photodynamic Therapy as one of her treatments for rosacea. Up till today I have never heard of that term..is it basically photoderm? She said they put Levulan on your face for an hour before treatment. I believe it was so the machine can see more red. The name of the machine is Cutara I think..Ken

you have to be extremely careful with levulan. two points a) its expensive (adds $100/treatment or so) and b) it aggrevates rosacea. i have seen dr. nase say that 30mins is the most rosaceans should tolerate. im sure it depends on the person, but i think his point is well taken.

    best,
    trey

I have had PDT. It will cause you to be more reactive to the IPL.

It is specifically for the acne form of R. It shrinks and seals sebaceous glands.

And it is true Dr Nase recommends the 30 minute protocol. I believe he called it the "quick" treatment.

AH, thanks for the posts. Seems regular IPL would be better for me then. I have mostly persistant redness and the visible blood vessels. Red bumps occasionally..but come and go with heat or from using certain products it seems..
