Default Why does V beam cause fat loss ? (If it does)

Hi, I just wanted to ask about this. I've seen various people on this website say they got fat loss from IPL or V-beam, the practitioners who use it usally say this isn't possible because it doesn't penetrate far enough into the skin. Can anyone say why it does cause fat loss if it does ?

I found the following article and paper helpful:

    Complications of Dermatologic Laser Surgery
    https://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1120837-overview

Linear Scarring Following Treatment With a 595-nm Pulsed Dye Laser
    https://www.mdedge.com/dermatology/a...-595-nm-pulsed

I'm not sure that there is such a thing as fat loss from lasers, however as I understand it it's definitely possible to deliver too much energy and destroy some of the deeper dermal tissue leaving recessed marks on the face (atrophic scarring) or other problems (some people talk about their face being oddly shaped or sagging after getting burned).

Thank you for those articles. This has always puzzled me as well. It doesn't seem to make much sense that such a thing would even be possible. Scarring and thermal damage, sure, but fat loss? Hmm. Not, of course, that I'm trying to discredit anyone's experience. It's just very strange.

I've got approx 3mm circle indentation at the side of my nose caused by v beam.
I didn't have the bruising setting but noticed the white circle soon after treatment.

I don't think it would make anyone feel any better knowing that it wasn't fat loss but tissue damage from laser/ipl.

I agree but I think some of the confusion might be avoided if people stop calling it fat loss unless they know the damaged tissue is fat and not collagen or something else

Precisely. I wasn't saying damaged tissue is a better alternative. I was just saying that I'm not sure "fat loss" is actually what's happening in these scenarios.
