Default I fixed my Rosacea finally!!!!!!!

The past couple of years has been absolute hell for me with this condition. I have P&Ps with redness and no matter what I used it would not go away.

It turns out that I was inadvertently treating my rosacea prior to going to docs and specialists. In the end, I was having a lot of skin buildup that was causing irritation and leading to more bumps no matter what antibiotic I was on. Topicals made it worse. I finally just sat down and looked through all of my notes and thoughts as well as research and pinned down the issue being that my skin and pores were constantly clogged which lead to redness, irritation and bumps. I started treating my face with a salicylic acid face wash and I am just watching the skin shed along with the redness that was underneath thus opening my pores and allowing my skin to breath.

Its funny that I had a couple of bumps 4 years ago and my doctor told me to stop using a facewash I had and to use Cerave. Once I made that switch my bumps and skin got worse and I just figured...."oh man, I got to the doc just in time" well...not really. Anyways, I kept thinking back to that moment and it clicked with me that I was treating it sort of with the acid which is an antiiflammatory and skin turn over agent.

I am back on the regimen I had prior to all of this and my skin is recovering and feeling great with my scars starting to lighten up and go away. The constant tight feeling and dryness from the skin build up is going away day by day and I can finally say I have this under control.

Really it came down to my skin just not being able to breath because of this thickening skin build up that I was too afraid to try and remove either chemically or mechanically. I still flush some but thats okay, Im taking doxy for that but the irritation and bumps are basically gone.

Heres to my mystery case getting solved. I know I might still have challenges but atleast Im not lost anymore.

    My regimen is as follows

    Morning:

    Wash with Salicylic 2%
Moisturize with Renee Rouleau Phytolipid cream

    Night:
Wash with Dermatologica Ultra Calming Cleanser (great stuff)
Moisturize with Renee Rouleau Phytolipid cream

Once I have this thickened skin under more control I will switch to a more gentle regiment of using only the ultra calming cleanser and 1% SA treatment by Paulas Choice.

Hi, Congratulations! Rosacea can be such a long road. So glad you found relief. What brand of 2% SA face wash are you using? I tried Renee Rouleau's phytolipid cream and it was so uncomfortable on me for some reason. It felt too oily. I don't have p&p - just redness and flushing. I might look into the Dermologica cleanser. I've heard good things about their ultra calming line.

So did you have seb derm? Clogged pores are common with seb derm moreso than rosacea and salicyclic acid is one of the treatments listed for seb derm as well.

How long have things been improving? I hope this continues to work for you as i've thought i 'fixed' my condition dozens of times only for it to rebound.

Things have been steadily increasing for the past 3 weeks. I started to speed up the healing by testing the SA wash which is Neutrogenas Stress Control 2%...it can be a bit harsh if overused but I put it one and rinse it quickly and dont scrub it in...there is a more gentle 1% wash from Neutrogena that I might use daily. It seems to be more of a natural cleanser for the line. I tested it for 3 days in the most sensitive areas (under my eyes) and saw no signs of irritation and only improvement in texture and color. I know that if there is going to be any irritation that it will show itself in 2 days and it will be under my eyes.

Im still not sure if I have seb derm or if my skin was just thickening. No derm even mentioned or noticed...though I wouldnt be suprised if they missed it. My progress has been the best since I switched to Doxycycline. Doxy greatly reduced the inflammation and that is when I noticed my skin starting to shed more with normal skin and coloration coming through. My cheeks feel nice and cool to the touch too.

As far as a rebound...Im still wary of that too. But as I learn more and test treatments against what I know about myself and my skin, I am making progress and I think I might put the final nail in rosaceas coffin for the time being.

I am currently using Neutrogenas Stress Control although its just what Im testing with. I would use their 1% Natural Cleanser http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Nat...FXRS6WC5DM5FB5.

I will be using Dermatologicas full line of ultra calming products including the serum. I know I have an issue with my moisture barrier due to this build up. NOTHING could penetrate because of what was on the surface of my skin and it would just sit there. Now that I am gently removing this layer, my skin is actually feeling less tight which means that I am knocking that film away and moisture is reaching below it. The SA is helping with the redness too.

    Default Update

For anyone following this. I continued using the SA, but I switch only to the paulas choice 1% for rosacea prone skin.

So far still so good. My skin continues to shed that weird skin...after showering I can really see it coming off and my face has been feeling less tight and my skin tone is getting even and less blotchy. I still get a few bumps but they arent inflamed like they once were. As long as I leave them alone then come and go as if they werent there to begin with and are leaving no damage like they once did. I do feel that this is because of the SA.

I still flush when hot or anxious but I always have as long as I can remember. Not much I can think about how to fix that. I always have been a hot natured person. I get hot very easily and it shows in my cheeks.

    Default Blue Star Ointment

I use Blue Star Ointment on my pimples and dry, scaly patches from my Type II Rosacea. It has Camphor and salicylic acid in it. Camphor has many uses, including pest deterent (it is believed to be toxic to insects, not sure what it's effects would be on Demodex, but this is interesting), anesthetic (helps with painful, itchy sores), antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory.
