    Default Metronidazole

I was prescribed the cream for my rosacea and the only thing it seems to be doing is giving me pimples. My rosacea is the kind where i flush easily and have some permanent redness across my cheeks and nose but no papules. I tried it for about a week and then gave up, has anyone had success with this cream? Should I give it more time? What's my next step, b/c im honestly starting to lose faith in my doctors. Thanks!

You usually want to give topical meds 6 - 8 weeks to work. But the gel might work better for you - it's possible that something in the cream might clog your pores.

Metrocream (metronidazole cream) has isopropyl palmitate as an ingredient which is a highly comedogenic substance (acne-causing) -- go back to your derm and ask for one of the following:

    a) Metrogel if your skin is oily/combination
    b) Noritate if your skin is dry - Noritate is a cream with metronidazole too but doesn't have the isoproyl palmitate in it

    Hi there

Personally, I wouldn't bother with that cream for flushing/base redness symptoms. Look into anti-flushing oral treatment like Clonidine, Remeron or Propranolol; info can be found under the 'Prescriptions' section on this forum. Derms often start with the usual treatments (a topical gel or cream, and Oracea or tetracycline) but these treatments don't really have a good track record in helping those with Rosacea Type 1 (flushing/burning/perm base redness). Hope you find some relief soon,

    Best,
