    Default Here goes

    Hey
So, I was just wondering what you guys think could be up with my face,Besides looking like the back of a bus.
I am 34 years old and have suffered with my face since I was 13 or 14 years old.
I have been and am once again a chronic blusher - Which I have had 2 ETS operations to treat. I also have severe flushing which is just as devastating as I'm sure some of you will be aware of.
I know ETS and blushing isn't really talked about much on this forum(least that's what I think) - So I suppose its best to look at each individually.
Its is the flushing that has really brought me to hell everyday in work
I start each day pretty normal, chatty and not bothered by much. But in my mind I kniw whats coming, Usually about 12 or 1 ish, I start to build up to afull face flush.
I sometimes wonder if people think of me as a Jeckhyl + Hyde personality.
My flush normally lasts about an hour - But again as some of you will be aware Mentally its crippling me - If I think I will flush at a social event or something I am required to be at - I generally will nit go.
I have tried 2 IPL - wow that was sore. And 4 laser genesis treatments - were not sore, but did not to much good. I also tried paxil for 3 months, First 2 weeks was working - then back to normal - Quiting paxil was a longer trip back from hell by the way

Anyways - I know I don't paint a pretty picture - But if anyone has any suggestions?

    Sorry for waffling

Hi and welcome to the forum

Sorry to hear you have been through so much I blush easily and so can begin to imagine what you must have been through.

With regards your photo is looks like a rosacea flush but really it doesn't look as bad as I have a feeling you think it does. From your description it doesn't sound as though you have tried to treat the flushing as such. There is a range of medication which can be utilized such as antibiotics, anti-anxiety meds, creams such as finacea/metrogel,etc. I suggest that the best thing to do would be to make an appointment to see your doctor/derm to discuss possible approaches if you haven't already.

In the meantime this link is a great starting point:

    Hello, Cush

    Some suggestions:

    - Read this: http://www.ausci.com/ROSACEA%20BOOKLET%202009.pdf
If you are forever searching out cool environments, it might open your eyes.

    - Consider red light therapy. Go to the Low Level Light Therapy section here at the forum.

    - If you are able to exercise without getting red (or much red) - a not uncommon experience after ets - take advantage of this. A vigorous workout in the morning might mitigate your afternoon flushing. Exercise should help, full-stop. Are your hands and feet quite cold?

    - Perhaps most importantly: give thought to the mental aspects. I'm sure you will be aware of all this. Is your reaction to your flushing warranted? Is your life more harmed by your response to your red face ( your fears about it, your obsessions about it ) or by your red face? Give thought to why you blush? Share your concerns with your girlfriend and as many friends as possible. If you think it appropriate, see a psychotherapist or some such. And a quick note for the next time you feel yourself beginning to become withdrawn and perhaps taciturn as that afternoon flush takes hold: being a prick (I use that term loosely) does not disguise a red face. It just means you're a prick with a red face. Being a nice guy with a red face is infinitely better.

I might have added that anti-hypertensive drugs (like clonidine) and beta-blockers (like propranolol) - the sort of things many rosaceans take to help with flushing - will likely be inappropriate for you.

    Not a problem though.

    Best of luck.

    Thanks Sarah and GJ,

I do have cold hands and especially cold feet -

I have tried betablockers and many years ago clonidine, did nott really have an affect

I do see what you are saying about being a differnet person - whilst flushing, I would say I am just so consious of my face during these episodes, That it is very hard to be natural

Altough - I really know people would more than likely be thinking that I am a very nervous person rather than a prick ( I know you used that term lightly)

Its weird cos if I was someone that did not care how others see me - I guesss thats related to all people with Rosacea

Anywho's - I am going to make an appoinment with my doc to asked to be referred to a derm.

I deffiantly need some help med wise for anxiety at the minute

Thanks again for your comments/help guys.

    J
