Default Congratulations to my Southern Neighbours

Just a short congrats to all here living in the United States of America on the results of your election. I have many friends living in the U.S.A. and tonight they have universally expressed a renewed hope for the future. In Canada, our economy and global safety are closely tied to the U.S., so I couldn't be happier.

I personally liked both Obama and McCain, but strongly felt that McCain was handcuffed by a thankfully ever thinning base of classless idiots from saying and standing for what he truly believes in (I speak of for example those classless fools who catcalled and boo'd during the portion of McCain's concessions speech where he indicated that he had called Obama to congratulate him on winning).

I would also commend the U.S. on your voter turnout, Canada should take note of a country that cares enough to meaningfully choose a leader.

Yes amazing turnout, no doubt due to having two good candidates.

Fingers crossed now that all this positive change happens and that the global economy turns around as well. No doubt this is a difficult time for us all and I truly hope this is change for the better.

As a "classless idiot" McCain supporter, in our defense, I think you misinterpret the booing at McCains speech. I took it as they were booing the fact that he was conceding and "giving up" not the fact that he called Obama to congratulate him. At least, that's how I took it.

Perhaps, but the booing did start at the mere mention of Obama's name, which I thought came off as ignorant, maybe I am being to tough on a disappointed crowd. Grace in defeat (something McCain was showing) is an underrated virtue.

BTW, my hyperbole about the supporters is not a broad sweeping statement, I speak of those supporters who yell racial epithets or death threats at rallies or call the opponent a communist or a terrorist, in support of their candidate. I am not a fan of negative politics in the first place and this type of garbage has no place in modern politics IMO.

One interesting note given the perception of U.S.'s adoration of war heroes and those that serve in their military is this is apparently the 5th election where the U.S. has NOT voted for the person with the better record of military service (George Bush Sr., Bob Dole, Al Gore, John Kerry and now John McCain).

I know you didn't mean it as a sweeping indictment of all McCain supporters. I just wanted to give you a hard time.
Interesting point you bring up about the US and war heroes. However, since I am a veteran of the 10th Mountain Division Light Infantry I voted for everyone on your list save one and I will leave it to you to guess which one.

Hmm well we'll see how Mr Obama does. I remember what happened after Carter was elected and it wasn't good.

Damn. Was relishing the prospect of Palin being a heart attack away from the firing codes.
