Default starting RLT - updates along the way and questions for all :)

    hey everyone,

i havent posted on here in a while but ive been having this dehydrated/dry feeling within my facial skin that has hightened ever since my last 2 v-beams back in june

mostly my face is just really tight/dehydrated feeling and then i believe i have seb derm across the nose and to the left and right of the nose

im weird in terms that my face is a bit resistant to flush but then i feel like my face is on fire at times when normally we would all flush

almost like my nerves are sensitized or something

so i guess before i started i just want to confirm a couple things:
I've heard RLT over time would slowly start to help the skins ability to feel/retain moisture??
Also heard that over time is works to reduce inflammation and therefore help the redness and flushing/burning sensations?

I started yesterday night for 5 minutes at about 7 inches from my face and then did it tonight for about another 5 minutes.

During the session my face did start to feel tighter but then afterwards for the next 30 minutes my face did feel calmer but then everything in between is sort of bad.

Like that tight/dehydrated/burning feeling is around a bit more often and seems to arise easier than it did before - ive read on here that that could be normal and that it may be quote on quote worse before it gets better????? what do u think??

My face definitely feels smoother so thats a bonus but this increase in tightness/burning is a little annoying but if u guys help me ill push through it lol!

I have white, pale skin and definitely no rhinoplyma but im pretty sure the redness along the nose and left and right of cheeks (not a malar rash as u can see if u look up one of my old posts where i posted a picture asking people if it was seb derm) is seb derm. Anyone know if RLT does anything for seb derm??

Thanks for all ur help in advance everyone and ill keep u all updated along the way,
    Matt

actually in just after that first post i went and looked in the mirror and for the first time in a while im actually seeing a little bit of dry flakes??? and ever though my skin feels tight/burning ive never really had visible dry flakes - is that normal at first??

I didn't ask this in that first post but i guess another up front question is that in one way or another does RLT sorta make things worse before getting better after about a month?

    Hi Matt,

For me RLT does make my skin drier as I am doing it and for that reason I do moisturise before and after and I find that really helps keep my face calm. When I first started RLT I would have times where I would get flushy but then I started more slowly and made sure to keep myself cool as heat is my worse trigger. So if your RLT emits any warmth that might be a trigger so keep yourself cool. Start a bit further away and do shorter sessions and be patient. It does take time to notice real benefits but it is good that you do notice calming of your skin after a session.

Some members state that it makes their rosacea worse initially but they notice improvement hours later.

Best of luck with the RLT Matt!

    Melissa

    thanks melissa,

so i guess ur saying though that even over time RLT still makes ur skin drier?? That's sort of upsetting to hear as i was hoping for the opposite effect over time and believe it or not that was my #1 motive is attempting RLT - followed by the flushing and redness of course.

Has anyone out there had their face become calmer in terms of moisture content with RLT or does everyone usually get drier?

just another observation i noticed tonight:

my nose is usually the only place very i have visible broken capillaries besides also my eye lids i have tons and my ears (weird at 22 but maybe accutane caused that)

but i noticed that my capillaries on my nose and elsewhere are a lot more visible ... is that sorta with the worse before better package of RLT?

anyone's comments are appreciate and if RLT vets like banshee, peter, iowadave etc... take a look at this if u could take the time to put ur input in on everything since the beginning too i'd really appreciate it
    thanks again

could it be that becasue the background redness is diminished they just look more prominent?

With regards to having veins on the ears and eyelids I think it is because the skin there is thinner and so they are more visible more quickly

    Matt,
I have dry skin to begin with but yes when I use the RLT it makes my face drier but only while I am using it and afterwards I notice no difference in the dryness of my face and I am improved in my rosacea symptoms.

oh ok thanks melissa that makes more sense and lessens my worry a bit

another question ... geees i know sorry the questions are already piling up but should i treat the beginning of RLT like as if i've gotten an IPL or v-beam treatment meaning should i avoiding exercise and raising my blood pressure - or do u think that would be fine b/c RLT is so gradual

I don't think you need to change anything before you start the RLT. The beauty of it is that it is very gentle and results gradual. Just be aware that you should start slowly and see how it goes. I noticed increased flushing at the beginning but that was from the small amount of heat emitted with my previous (DPL) unit. So just take your time and build up the RLT gradually and hopefully you will see improvement.

I really credit it with helping my flushing and burning a lot. I didn't notice a big change till this fall when I started having a lot of burning issues with my face due to cycling with a cool wind hitting my face. I started getting constant burning and just started using my RLT more intensively and it calmed my face right down and the burning went away. It was very dramatic and quite a relief for sure. I really think that RLT has huge potential in helping rosacea (and perhaps other diseases) sufferers! Good luck and let us know how it is going!

    Melissa

PS Please don't hesitate to ask any questions. That is what this forum is here for!

thanks again melissa ... seems like this thread has become more of a chat room for the two of us lol

ya i guess i may be sort of a weird exception to stuff b/c im currently undergoing a work up with many specialists b/c i have a bunch of other weird systemic problems and as sad as it is to say they all sound oddly similar to what another person on here - lamar- is / was going through due to long term accutane side effects after being on a 'norma' dose so probably 40mg/4-5months type thing and it sucks if thats the case but oh well learn and let live eh

so i actually think maybe when i did get my last pupuric v-beam treatment that even though they said it was the same level as before that i might have reactted badly to it and have this dehydration/tight feeling from here on in - it was back in june so im giving it a good 6 months to see if it had a temporarily affect on the seb glands like smoothbeam laser usually does for about 6-8 months - just thinking positive

but anyways three days in and still have this heightened tight feeling - even though oddly enough my face is definitely oiler and smoother feeling but still this weird tightness/burning (maybe its not the skin but nerve related in my case)

anyone really know how to self-distinguish between if the tightness/burning is from the skin or the nerves - might be a stupid question but hey lemme know

ill be doing my third session tonight before bed still at only 5 minutes and a pretty good distance away (7inches - thats not too close or far to start is it???)
