I think a worsening of symptoms is to be expected in the first few weeks. Stick with it. Let us know your progress. Hope you start to see some improvement soon.

keep hope :)Quote:
I started Soolantra one week ago, and my condition has dramatically worsened. Has anyone experienced an initial worsening, followed by improvement? It is tough to persevere when my face is this irritated.
A first phase of die off looks normal. For me (I took Ivomec on topical as Soolantra is still not avaible in France) this phase took 2 weeks with a lot of P&P (20 to compare to 5 or 6 usually).
Irritation is strange... Ivermectin appears very safe. Try to keep your face very hydrated.
Thanks for the encouragement and the kind words. Oddly, one day after my post, I saw significant improvement! From what I understand, there are going to be ups and downs with this treatment, but my face was SO MUCH worse than it had ever been at the 8 or 9 day mark that I could not imagine how it could turn around in 24 hours. I will continue to use the ivermectin and assess it's effectiveness over 2-3 months, hoping for more good days than bad.
I decided to give this another sustained go. It's been 6-7 weeks and my skin is considerably worse than my normal baseline (which has mostly been the case since about week 2). I'm trying hard to push myself to go the full 12 weeks, but at the moment it's very difficult not to just wave a white flag...
Has anyone had any success treating type 1 with this cream? I don't have any p&p's, mostly flushing, permanent blotchy redness and visible veins. However I do have very slightly bumpy skin (tiny bumps not very visible these days unless I look really closely) and I'm wondering if treating this may help the flushing/redness.
Also does it tend to dry your skin?
My redness has reduced together with the p&ps but I have subtype 2. However, there's really only one way to find out and that's to try it. I'd give it a go because for the longest time I discounted the demodex theory to my own detriment. I've been using 30 % TTO with a coconut carrier and the results after 8 weeks are great. I don't know how much soolantra costs so perhaps there's a financial consideration bur that aside is worth a try.
Thanks for your message Col. I think I will give it a try if my GP will prescribe it. I wouldn't bother if it wasn't for the strange texture of my skin. I hope it may improve my skin barrier which would hopefully make some improvement to the flushing. It's got to be worth a go! :)
Hi friends :) I have wacky skin texture, too. I haven't been using any topicals with actives. Only moisturizer. But think I need to now. I've been working hard to restore my skin barrier, too, and don't want to mess up my progress.
Am trying to decide between Finacea and Soolantra.
I know Finacea is known for improving skin texture and have used it a smidge in the past. But does Soolantra help skin texture? Does it "just" kill mites? Or are there skin rebuilding properties? Anyone know?
I've not used Finacea either. I've only tried metrogel which dried my skin out quite a bit. Choices, choices!
Me, too, Emz. Metrogel made my already light-sensitive skin even more sensitive. Metrocream made it break out.
Here are some other folks discussing it on David Pascoe's site. (See comments at bottom) http://rosacea-support.org/soolantra...-pictures.html
Thank you hg24, that's very interesting. It's convinced me to at least try it. I don't actually know of its available in the UK on prescription although if it works as good as some report I'd happily pay!!
Just speaking from my own experience.. I have been on Soolantra for 2 weeks. The most immediate thing i noticed (within a day or two) was improvement to skin texture. I do not think I even realized the extent of roughness on my skin until after trying this medication, which then it became noticeably smoother. It is also less scaly/flaky/itchy. The redness has reduced from my cheeks greatly; still waiting on some stubborn redness on the nose, then i will stop wearing make up entirely. It also cleared up the P&P nicely. Hoping it lasts..
Good luck to you!
I've been going to dermatologists on and off since i was 15 (current age is 32). I have tried a myriad of treatments, most of which have been underwhelming. Recently though, I had a good experience with a new dermatologist. She looked at me for 3 seconds and told me I had rosacea from demodex. She then took a scraping from my skin and showed me the little guys under magnification. She told me, well, basically that I had a lot of them and prescribed Soolantra (luckily i have insurance right now). I have never been so horrified and happy at the same time! Mostly because (a) parasites, gross right? and (b) there are effective treatments for that, which I have never tried. Many previous dermatologists have been treating me for acne, which I'm pretty sure at this stage I do not have (it's type 2 rosacea). So glad I kept this appointment too, because I almost cancelled it.
I've been on the treatment for two weeks (tomorrow) and the results are pretty good. Not perfect, but my skin is almost to an acceptable forget-the-makeup range. I am curious how this will go long term, or if they'll return after the treatment is over. I've been applying it generously at night (with no sensitivity) and sunscreen/makeup in the day. The tube seems to be running out fast, however.
I feel like the results plateaued after 4-5 days, but I have also just spent a week in sunny California and expected some rebound. Some redness did return, but not as much as I expected. (traveling and sunshine are usually horrible triggers for me). Now I'm back and will continue the treatment.
Thanks for the reply! appreciate it. Think I'll see if my derm can give me a sample of it to try.
Hi emz, John here from Ireland, I am suffering with the exact same symptoms as you, facial redness, flushing and blotchy red spots, visible veins, I would really like to know as well if ivermectin will help me as well, I was thinking of buying ivomec 1% on amazon, it's the same strength as soolantra, I'm suffering with dermodex mite as well, can you keep me posted on how you are treating your symptoms and with what sort of creams or ointments, cheers, Regards john.
Thanks for sharing Ronanak. I hope you continue to see improvement. Although the texture of my skin doesn't really bother me, I can't help feeling that sorting this will impact flushing so it is very interesting to hear your experience.
John - I have a doctors appointment in just over 2 weeks. If she is able to prescribe this I'll let you know how it goes. If she can't prescribe it I may look online like yourself. My treatment current consists of clonidine (75mcg 3 x daily), propranolol for potentially stressful situations such as meetings and social engagements (20mg usually but sometimes 40mg just when required), honey treatment when I have time, grapeseed extract tablets daily and a relatively cheap moisturiser (Nivea sensitive day cream/night cream). I keep meaning to buy a better moisturiser (the one recommended by hg24) but I need to buy it online and keep forgetting!
hg24 - I would be really interested to hear your experience of this too if you try it :)
Hi John, the clonidine helps significantly with the flushing. When I do flush it is usually not as bad or for as long. I can also sometimes stop a flush if I feel it coming on (e.g. by working out whatever I'm doing that may be contributing to it, such as rushing around at work or stressing!) It helps with the flushing I get after eating which was a real problem for me. I would say it's made a 60% improvement and made my condition much more manageable. I wouldn't be without it! Emz
I'm still applying this twice per day, and I've practically forgotten about my rosacea (so I haven't been on this forum for a while). If in the morning my nose still seems a bit red, I'll take 100mg of doxycycline and the redness calms down after about an hour. I'm guessing that most days ivermectin is peacefully keeping demodex at bay, but every once in a while there is enough die-off that some bacteria gets released which the doxy can make short work of.
I don't know if my theory of -why- it works is correct, but I do know it's working for me. I don't have perfect redness free skin, but it's calmed down enough that I hardly ever think about it anymore. I've even been going mountain biking on a regular basis and to my surprise the redness doesn't go catastrophic afterwards. I've also stopped all other topicals/treatment, and only wash my face with water except for days where I had to wear sunscreen (once every couple of days usually). I think that has helped quite a bit too because I'm no longer constantly agitating my skin.
Hi bob, I am suffering with bad redness at the moment, especially around the nose very sore and my forehead has p&p's, I have been treating the dermodex mite with Lyclear dermal cream, I have a antibiotic called efracea (oracea) afraid to take them because I think the antibiotics are making my condition worse, because my face looks a mess, I'm confused about the redness especially around the nose area and the creases of my nose very red dry and scaly, it is demodex dermodicosis or just my rosacea getting worse (confused irishman) any help or advice would be appreciated bob, cheers, Regards john.
Lovelyhurling, "dry red scaling" *could* be from demodex. It was in my case anyway. No experience with those medications, though. :(
Just finished week 3 with Soolantra, and it has cleared up all of my face, except the nose. Not sure if it's "die off" or if the medication just can't get in there somehow. Or something else..
p.s. i think it's interesting how ivermectin is an anti-parisitic in veterinary medicine. When the doctor told me what it was, immediately thought 'heartguard' like i give to my pets. My cats also hate getting their monthly topicals, but i no longer feel bad because we are all in the same boat now (lol).
For those questioning about the availability in Europe: it's available in the UK and probably also in France and Germany. Expected in The Netherlands in January 2016 (according to Galderma).
I'm currently on day 5. Couldn't detect any demodex mites by microscope, yesterday. But it's too early to tell whether they are all killed (and possibly also too early to be true).
Its great that the stuff is Wirkung for so many People!
I Used soolantra for the first time.last night and it was all fine right After applying. Today i Woke up and my face was as bed as it Has not been in a long time. Red Hot Blotches on my cheeks and some p&ps. I just took a shower And now my face keeps getting even more Red and Hot. Even on my forehead and cheeks where i never had any Problems... I am Close to ging to Hospital i am Almost Purple. It says something in the description that one can be allergic to the ingredients of soolantra and that the allergic reaction can kick in with time delay.
I Do Not trink that this is a die off of mites. I so ****ing sick of trying Medicine that is Supposed to help but only Makes things Worse. I have an important Meeting in tow days and go on Holiday in three days and all I want is to hide in Front of the fridge. It will Take Weeks to have a Kind of normal face again if the Red can dissappear again at all...
If you tend to be allergic to everything and if your Skin is hypereactive be Careful with this. I should have Made a test Blotch.
If you think it's allergie, try it on another part of the body (less visible) and check the reaction.
I took a zyrtec antihistamine and it seems like slowly calming down... i will test on my arm tomorrow when the antihistamine won't be working anymore.
If the arm test succeeds and you want to try it again on your face, maybe you can try this:
-on a day with a couple of days free afterwards, so that you can stay at home
-only a very small portion of the face
-in the morning, so that you can rule out any accidental unconscious scratching/pressure during sleep
-apply a very small amount, far less than the normal dose
-immediately followed by applying a moisturizer of which you know that is safe for your facial skin. Or maybe even safer: first apply the moisturizer, than a very small amount of Soolantra.
Pippilotta I'm sorry to hear of the reaction your having to Soolantra. Can you confirm that it is now available in pharmacies in Germany and if so how much is it?
Thank you for the advice! I will retry Exactly like that! So strange that i am the first one with a reaction like that. I thought The worst thing that Happend to People was that nothing happened...
Yes it Has been available for two Months now here .in germany, for prescribed Medication you always have to pay only 10euros of the full price the Rest is payed by Insurance so i do not what the full price is, sorry.
My face is better than in the morning now but i can already See the damage in the vessels. Especially in facial parts where i never had any Problems :(
As with all oral or topical medication there will always be some that will fail from the beginning. During the clinical trial of Soolantra about 1% had to discontinue treatment. But also take into account that others reported burning and stinging which abated as treatment progressed. So you may want to try again after your holidays.
Has anyone had this in the UK? I went to the dermatologist at the end of August and she said it wasn't available yet. Could it be different for different parts of the UK? (I'm in the north west of England).
Hi Littleearthwanderer,
I tried to get this from my GP a few weeks ago (I live in the South West) but she was unsure if she could prescribe it and is supposedly looking into it. I chose to order it online instead.
I have type 1 and have been using it for about a week. So far it doesn't appear to be doing anything. I have had a few small spots which I don't usually get and nothing else (no change in flushing or change in skin texture) so maybe it's doing something. I don't know.
Your GP is looking into it? I don't understand this atall. Another member from the UK , user name Tso claims it is available and and has been using Soolantra since 18 august. Aren't you guys able to check with a pharmacy. You go in with the name of the product, they check their data bank on the computer and can let you know in seconds what's available and what's not. Isn't that the way it works or are things run differently in the UK? You don't need the prescription when you're just enquiring.
It may be because I don't have p&p's but she wasn't confident she was able to prescribe it and she would let me know. That's all she told me.
I have no clue about borders when it comes to distribution of medicines within the UK. So if there are members here interested in Soolantra from N Ireland Scotland Wales and England could you please check with a pharmacy. Most operate with the same data base and should be able to let you know straight away if a medicine is available throughout the territory.
I'm not from the UK ;)
And I"m not sure anymore whether it is fully available in the UK: a UK based online pharmacy has Soolantra available, but I don't see much other UK based websites listing it. http://www.galderma.co.uk/Contact should be able to tell when it is fully available in the UK.
Sorry Tso I presumed you were from the UK because your email last week stated quite confidently that Soolantra is available. So you bought the Soolantra online from a UK registered pharmacy which could have been shipped from Singapore for all we know. Great. To anyone who was considering popping into a pharmacy to see if Soolantra is available in the UK, don't bother.
The pharmacy does ship Soolantra from the UK. The only thing that is strange is that if a UK pharmacy is shipping it from the UK, you would expect others in the UK to have it available as well, but when quickly looking at the Internet that doesn't seem to be the case.
So ask Galderma UK, they should have all the knowledge about it.
I have no idea how these online pharmacies can sell a prescription medication to a country where it is not available. I'm guessing that this is the same way a German member obtained Soolantra and in doing so also thought that it must be available throughout Germany. Anyway Tso tell us how are you getting on with Soolantra?
