Thank for your tipps but I think I just follow the patient information leaflet.
"After first opening of the tube, use the product within 6 months."
"Apply a pea size amount of the cream to each of the five areas of the face: forehead, chin, nose and each cheek. Then spread the cream as a thin layer across the entire face."
This is an extract of the english leaflet. The last sentence is not part of the german leaflet. I have no rosacea on my chin. I don't know if you should spread it only to the upper cheeks (in german 'Wange') or to the lower cheeks as well ('Backe')...
Demodex lives on the entire face, even on the areas where there are no visible signs of rosacea.
I have been on Soolantra for 4 weeks now and have seen some typical results. My cheeks which have been a chronic source of breakouts resolved happily within the first week - pretty amazing. I had a few solo breakouts that popped up here and there but have completely disappeared. My trouble spot has been my forehead. This breakout was new and what prompted my visit to the dermatologist. With Soolantra the forehead became worse with many breakouts, even in areas that I haven't had any. However, as I enter week 5 things seem to be calming down with just a little new activity. I hope that this is the downside activity (aka more "die off) but I will say I am very pleased so far!
John, but you are in Germany?
My tube/packaging says "Haltbarkeit nach Anbruch: 8 Wochen" - I can make a photograph of this if you like.

Day 14 update - My white heads are all gone and the raised red bumps are starting to flatten, so my skin looks and feels noticeably smoother than a few days ago, but not completely smooth. I am feeling better emotionally than last time I wrote. There was no way to hide the bumps - they were everywhere and looked gross - I ended up working from home 2 days leading up to a weekend to avoid people for 4 days straight, but now I'm fine going out. The itching is all gone. My skin is dry in spots. The redness is still bad. My face still looks very blotchy red and worse than before starting Soolantra, but it's easy enough to hide with makeup, so I'll take that any day over the p&p. I'll keep posting updates periodically.
John, the leaflet (Beipackzettel) also says "8 weeks".
I had to discontinue with Soolantra, went to the dermatological clinic on Wed since I had a rash where I applied Soolantra- they said it was a contact reaction/eczema.
Am again on Protopic, rash is already much better, but of course the p&ps keep coming. Will try Rosiced now.

I have been using Soolantra for about a week now. My skin (subtype 1 mild) has been clearing up and skin has been looking better and feeling more comfortable. The first few days my eyes were killing me, and I suspect demodex were running there due to ivermectin on the skin. My doctor said if it didnt bother me I could try to use it around my eyes as an off label use. I am going to try this as I am very desperate to get my eyes under better control. I have subtype 4 as well but pretty moderate-severe. The constant eye burning/watering for the last 5 years has been nothing short of exhausting.
I work at a pharmacy (but run the large cosmetics area) and my boss (main pharmacist) said that it is good 3 months after the expiry still. Not sure how true this is or if we would want to risk it not being effective anymore. My tube was $200.00 and I live in Canada!
Good luck
If the cream clears up anyones eyes PLEASE PRIVATE MESSAGE ME!
Thanks friends!
When you first started Soolantra , like on day 2 or 3 ...did you skin get more itchy or hives appear at all ? I ask because I have subtype 1 as well and this happened to me so I stopped using it . Now I just take oracea and use metro cream . My eyes do bother me from time to time but its fairly mild . After starting Oracea , my eyes never bother me any more . In the past I always thought my eyes would get itchy from my mascara , now I realize it was from my Rosacea . Good luck with your treatment ! :)
My skin got really red the first few days but quickly subsided. My subtype 4 is very resistant to anything, including doxy. Hopefully with the ivermectin treatment, I will start feeling better. I have really tried everything. I am going to ask my doctor this week for oral ivermectin too.
My skin got a bit more red to and felt pretty irritated . I got nervous thinking I may be having a reaction so after day 3 I stopped . Do you only apply your Soolantra at night ? Does your skin ever feel like a burning sensation or stingy ? Before the Soolantra I mean .
For your eyes did you try cliradex towelettes ?
Yes I use Cliradex already. My skin is okay now with the Soolantra. I know its once a day but I use it morning and night. I am also trying it on the eyelids which has been okay too. My subtype 1 is mild but my eyes are pretty bad. They don't look it but usually I am in a lot of pain... Cry:
I have now been using soolantra for approximately 6 weeks. All in all I'm seing some improvement, but I still get a few new papules weekly. It is mostly my stubborn right cheek that is refusing to clear. Some days are better than others, and it feels like I take two steps forward, then one step back all the time. But I guess it will have to be good enough for now. It was week four that I started to notice that my skin was getting better instead of worse every day.
To people that have just started using soolantra, I will say that it can get worse before it gets better. That was the case for me. So far it has not been a "miracle cream", but I will keep using it for at least 6 more weeks before I do a final evaluation.
I'm 3 weeks into Soolantra now. Redness is back to what is was before I started using it, no better no worse, but my skin is smooth now - just a couple of small, raised spots scattered around my face. I had a small breakout on the side of my nose several days ago, but that is cleared up. For a long time now (like decade or more) any red spots I'd get on my face took weeks to fade away, long after the original pimple/blemish/scratch/whatever healed, so I don't know yet if the Soolantra will actually help with the redness or not. I don't expect to know that more a month or more yet.
I'm considering getting a laser treatment at the end of June when I have a week of vacation, but probably shouldn't while I'm still using Soolantra. Does that sound like a bad idea? I wonder if my dermatologist would answer that question by phone without me going in for an appointment.
I agree with you, and your experience has been very similar to my own. Ill have 2 weeks of pretty good skin, then ill get a small breakout which will clear a few days, then I would get another bigger breakout which again clears in about 3 ish days, followed by 2 ish weeks clear skin... Im on my 7th week now and so far appart from a slight improvement in skin texture soolantra has not been a miracle cream, I just hope than once that 9th week rolls around ill start seeing major improvements. But im going to drop this cream on week 10th if I have not seen big improvements and go back to Oracea.
It sucks, because I really hoped that Soolantra was IT. So far im not seeing it...
Currently at 7 weeks and a few days of using Soolantra, Had a breakout of pustules in the creases of my nose on monday, I felt them coming on sunday. New pustules in the same-ish location since monday. Very unhappy, not sure if the die out was a few days late but last week my skin was getting good and now i feels like ive just been kicked in the gut... Surely I shouldn't be getting breakouts of this size from the die off on week 7? Arghhh, its a constant fight with these bugs and soolantra.
If you are just starting a topical treatment, you need a systemic treatment for a few months to kick start the healing. She had me on Oracea for 2 months...and I was bad...and she put me on Rosula Face Wash and Soolantra Cream at night. It took a couple of weeks and then I noticed that everything was clearing up. Now I just occasionally will get a red bump..usually near a whisker...but nothing significant. She's rolled me off the antibiotic to see if the topical can keep it in check. She told me I might have to go back on the Oracea when my immune system gets attacked because I'll see a flare ups, but she said the longer she can keep me off the systemic meds the better.
Blessings!
Well im stopping my soolantra treatment for a week or so to see if my skin improves, im almost on week 8 now and im still getting daily pustules on my nose. Honestly i think this cream has only made my condition worse. So ill stop for a bit to see if it improves. if I did have demodex then surely id have pustules in other places than just my nose and by now my breakouts should be much smaller.
I'm 4 weeks into my treatment with Soolantra, and I see a noticeable improvement over the last week. The raised, red bumps are not only gone, but the residual redness from those is gone now too. I have one spot near the side of my mouth that acted up this week, but overall I'm very pleased so far. I still have general redness to my face, but I'm not expecting Soolantra to resolve that. It's been years since I've looked in the mirror and my skin has had an even tone and smooth feel. I feel especially pleased in the mornings when the red spots used to be the worst, and now I don't have to wonder as I approach the mirror where the new breakouts will be.
Hey all. Long time lurker here. I've been on Soolantra for about 5 days for p&p rosacea. I'm super itchy at times and I'm not noticing any clearing, just more red bumps thus far. I always give products 8-12 weeks before giving up so I'll keep checking in to log my progress...or lack thereof.
Hi, I 've been applying soolantra on my face for approximately 1 month now and my papules are A LOT better. I'm still red though ;)
Until week 5 I constantly reported my progress weekly. But then I interrupted to report because there were some relapses and I felt too obsessed with my rosacea disease. So I claimed for myself to get more distance from the disease for a few weeks.
Currently I completed week 10. I still apply the cream daily at the evening after shower. At the moment I have hardly any pimples but some very tiny spots at the forehead. When I skim along my skin it feels quite smooth. The side effects are still a little irritation which causes more redness and the cream supports more blackheads. Therefore my main problems are many blackheads that often appear as a red dot. It is no pimple but still red and you can pull out the blackhead. I think I will apply the cream a few weeks as before. But then I will apply it only every alternate day to reduce the blackheads.
There is one side effect I read from that scares me a little bit. It is abnormal hair growth. Does this mean you get hair growth on all areas you applied (nose, cheeks, forehead)? I noticed little velus hair on these areas that maybe increased but I never was careful about this in the past. So I can not assess. Did anyone experience this side effect.
Hello all I am testing out Soolantra and time release doxycycline. I was given this by my dermatologist to test out and see. My rosacea is mild normally. Though I went on a high/full dose roaccutane last year and it messed my skin up badly.
I have had burning and tickling sensations, very large pores and shrivelled looking skin since. I really hope it gets better.
The 1st week so far has been tough. I look worse and more red than before. My skin feels worse too with strong sensations. I hope I am doing the right thing. Best wishes to all.
argh I stopped after 6 days. Was too much inflammation. My skin is still burning from the test.
This is what happened to me . Except my face was pretty itchy and a bit red . I stopped after 3 days . Its your call . I now use Metro cream with no problems at all so far . And I use a sulfur wash plus take Oracea . Although my derm told me I can wean off the Oracea now :) . This combo is giving me my life back smile:
I finally got a prescription for Soolantra, but the timing isn't so great... reading the fine print, the Soolantra Maximum Savings Card seems to have expired a week ago on 6/30/2016, but it's still downloadable from their website.
Can confirm sadly, after calling them and confirming the Group #, the Soolantra offer has indeed expired and they have not been advised of any future promotions with Soolantra at this time...
I have taken Soolantra for 12 weeks. My skin texture improved although I got spots and redness regularly during the trestment.
Last week I started to take it only each second day and now I have quit it completely. It seems there are less redness and less spots. But my skin is much better than before the treatment.
My theory is that treating the mites healed my skin but at the same time the incredients and the fatness of the creme promoted spots and redness. Do you know of any plans Soolantra is provided as a gel or can ivermecin be mixed by a pharmacist theirself?
By the way I have similiar effects when I take sunscreen. I always get spots by it. Has anybody a recommendation of a none oily sunscreen?
Don't stop it yet, use it for 5 months, otherwise there is a possibility that the mites multiply again. The spots and the redness you got might be a reaction to the dead mites.
Ivermectin can be mixed by the pharmacists, but I think they always prefer a somewhat oily cream for it.
i'm now useing soolantra for 5 days now. Too early to say something. But i have 2 questions: because i have no hairs on my head, is it a good idea to apply soolantra also on my head. I've some irritations on my head.
Second. Soolantra is for daily use, what can happen or is it adviceable to use it twice a day, mornings and evenings?
I'm also unsure how long i should use it.
You can apply Soolantra on your head. The directions say that it should be used once a day in the evening, but there are some people who use it in the morning too, without any problem.
Thank you.
I use it for more than three months. The mites should be killed long time ago. So a reaction because of dead mites is not very probable, isn't it?
Why 5 months? The surveys say that after 16 weeks there should be a real improvement otherwhise you should stop because continuing expects no further improvement. But if you have already an inprovement further use should give you even more improvement.
In my opinion I am just a little sensitive to the creme and it is just to oily which causes comedones. My compromise is applying every second or third day for now.
Hi John, the base for Soolantra is Cetaphil Moisturing Cream, which has these ingredients:
Purified Water, Polyglycerylmethacrylate, Propylene Glycol, Petrolatum, Dicaprylyl Ether, PEG-5 Glyceryl Stearate, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Dimethiconol, Cetyl Alcohol, Sweet Almond Oil, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Tocopheryl Acetate, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Lactic Acid.
The potential troublemakers are in bold text, from my perspective. Galderma's patent applications disclosed the use of Cetaphil Cream as the base for Soolantra. Cetaphil Cream, which is a waxy, sticky cream that washes off poorly.
Demodex are everywhere and normal inhabitants of the human skin. Applying Soolantra suppresses or eradicates the mites on your face or wherever you applied it, but mites will return -- except very slowly, because they don't move very far or very fast -- perhaps 5 to 10 mm in an hour is top speed for a male looking for a female burrow.
Hi John,
maybe you are indeed kind os sensitive/allergic to a component of the cream. But as you seems to have an oily issue, maybe you should try to use a very tiny amount that you spread over your face so that your skin stay dry/almost dry from it. Maybe it won't help at all but I used to have problems with cream treatments before (even if not soolantra that I did not try already) because I putted to much of it on my face which remains oily and then breakout because of the oilyness. Once I understood I could take benefit from using cream putting very less of it on my face so that it stay near dry, it was way better. Just a (maybe stupid) advice, but a good one for myself haha !
Good luck whatever with all of it, as to all of us
does anyone have soolantra they don't want?
i'm desperate. insurance wont cover it they want me to pay almost 700 bucks!Cry:
Hi Guys. I'm completely new to the Forum. I was diagnosed two weeks ago and given Soolantra by my dermo. I'm lucky in that I have a doctor in my office who referred me to a consultant straight away.
My experience so far is that the first few days were brilliant and I was really happy. Now it seems to burn and sting like crazy - to the point where this evening I've actually emailed my dermo for some advice. I'm so down about it. I used to have lovely clear skin and without notice, this condition has happened. I've also been given Lymeclyine but am cautious of using these but if the Soolantra continues to burn and not help, I may well take the antibiotics. I'm back with the dermatologist next week. I'll continue to update my progress with Soolantra. My face is just so painful using it the last few days. Fingers crossed that means it might be working.
Good luck to everyone on their medication.
