Thank for your tipps but I think I just follow the patient information leaflet.
"After first opening of the tube, use the product within 6 months."
"Apply a pea size amount of the cream to each of the five areas of the face: forehead, chin, nose and each cheek. Then spread the cream as a thin layer across the entire face."
This is an extract of the english leaflet. The last sentence is not part of the german leaflet. I have no rosacea on my chin. I don't know if you should spread it only to the upper cheeks (in german 'Wange') or to the lower cheeks as well ('Backe')...
Demodex lives on the entire face, even on the areas where there are no visible signs of rosacea.
I have been on Soolantra for 4 weeks now and have seen some typical results. My cheeks which have been a chronic source of breakouts resolved happily within the first week - pretty amazing. I had a few solo breakouts that popped up here and there but have completely disappeared. My trouble spot has been my forehead. This breakout was new and what prompted my visit to the dermatologist. With Soolantra the forehead became worse with many breakouts, even in areas that I haven't had any. However, as I enter week 5 things seem to be calming down with just a little new activity. I hope that this is the downside activity (aka more "die off) but I will say I am very pleased so far!
John, but you are in Germany?
My tube/packaging says "Haltbarkeit nach Anbruch: 8 Wochen" - I can make a photograph of this if you like.

Day 14 update - My white heads are all gone and the raised red bumps are starting to flatten, so my skin looks and feels noticeably smoother than a few days ago, but not completely smooth. I am feeling better emotionally than last time I wrote. There was no way to hide the bumps - they were everywhere and looked gross - I ended up working from home 2 days leading up to a weekend to avoid people for 4 days straight, but now I'm fine going out. The itching is all gone. My skin is dry in spots. The redness is still bad. My face still looks very blotchy red and worse than before starting Soolantra, but it's easy enough to hide with makeup, so I'll take that any day over the p&p. I'll keep posting updates periodically.
John, the leaflet (Beipackzettel) also says "8 weeks".
I had to discontinue with Soolantra, went to the dermatological clinic on Wed since I had a rash where I applied Soolantra- they said it was a contact reaction/eczema.
Am again on Protopic, rash is already much better, but of course the p&ps keep coming. Will try Rosiced now.

I have been using Soolantra for about a week now. My skin (subtype 1 mild) has been clearing up and skin has been looking better and feeling more comfortable. The first few days my eyes were killing me, and I suspect demodex were running there due to ivermectin on the skin. My doctor said if it didnt bother me I could try to use it around my eyes as an off label use. I am going to try this as I am very desperate to get my eyes under better control. I have subtype 4 as well but pretty moderate-severe. The constant eye burning/watering for the last 5 years has been nothing short of exhausting.
I work at a pharmacy (but run the large cosmetics area) and my boss (main pharmacist) said that it is good 3 months after the expiry still. Not sure how true this is or if we would want to risk it not being effective anymore. My tube was $200.00 and I live in Canada!
Good luck
If the cream clears up anyones eyes PLEASE PRIVATE MESSAGE ME!
Thanks friends!
When you first started Soolantra , like on day 2 or 3 ...did you skin get more itchy or hives appear at all ? I ask because I have subtype 1 as well and this happened to me so I stopped using it . Now I just take oracea and use metro cream . My eyes do bother me from time to time but its fairly mild . After starting Oracea , my eyes never bother me any more . In the past I always thought my eyes would get itchy from my mascara , now I realize it was from my Rosacea . Good luck with your treatment ! :)
