Second V-beam

I just wanted to say that I am sorry you are going through so much trouble with swelling. I hope you feel better soon. I am new to this group and saw your post and also read about the cost of this. I also live in the states and, well lets just say insurance in the states is not user friendly :) . I also read where, I believe, you said insurance pays for v-beam or IPL, is this true? I thought no insurance in the states pays for anything that is cosmetic, or maybe it is not cosmetic?

Thanks for your concern. Thank goodness the puffiness is so much better. My treatment for v-beam and IPL is a total of $500 for both which I didn't think was too bad. I don't think my insurance covers anything "cosmetic". But as those of us with rosacea know, it's not just cosmetic!!

I am glad you are doing better. I know the pain of Rosacea is true as I am a flusher that burns. I was just wondering if my insurance company will pay for it since I have the burning sensation. I would hope some insurance companies do as this is painful at times.

I don't think i update after my third v-beam, but i've just had my fourth. It's day four afterwards and i have had only a tiny bit of swelling, which is so different to my second and third treatments where the swelling was massive. I even had my forehead and chin down for the first time, as well as my cheeks. I planned for the fact that i wouldn't be able to go out in public for the weekend (i planned on rereading my Harry Potter books ready for the release of the last book) but i looked completely normal so went out and about instead.

So who knows why sometimes i get bad swelling and sometimes none at all?

Have you by any chance noticed any other side benefits from V-Beam treatments? Like better skin tone, or a few stubburn red marks from old pimples are now gone etc...things like that...?

I might call and see if anyone has cancelled :)

Keep us updated on how your skin improves after this 4th session. How many more are you planning on having?

I haven't noticed any textural or other changes from the v-beam, I've always had pretty good skin, and even with all the flushing so far it's stayed that way, well accept for the fact that it changes colour :oops: Although it could actually be that the v-beams have keep it that way, the skin on my chest, where i also flush and havn't had treated, is pretty odd looking by comparison, the texture is kind of weird and i'm slowly getting covered in tiny purple telangiectasias!

Next time i'll make an appointment to see the Derm, instead of the nurse but the nurse seemed to think i just need to find the right spacing for further treatments to maintain the results i've got, she said most people come back once or twice a year for treatment. I'd keep seeing just the nurse but need to see the derm to ask about maybe getting my chest treated. So i plan on having my next one in 6 months, which works out well since (as you know DJC) that's about how long it takes to get an appointment with Dr Bekhor anyway!

I had v-beam on most of my face yesterday morning, done by a NYC dermatologist. I left the office with significant bruising and redness. I'm not surprised by the redness, but the bruising is frightening looking. I won't leave my apartment this weekend, except maybe to go out at the crack of dawn for some vitamin K cream.

While she warned me that there might be "some bruising" I did not expect to look as if I had a dreadful disease. My cheeks and chin are a series of deep purple bruises.

Is it possible that she is using a older version of v-beam or just using what she's got badly?

The bruising (purpura) comes when the settings are slightly higher. Nothing to worry about as such, just a bit shocking when it happpens for the first time.

I think the newer machines tend to work at lower settings and thus avoid the bruising but this doesnt mean they were defintely using an older model.

Just hang in there, it will begin to fade in a day or two.

Thanks phlika29. I'm going to ask a lot more questions before undergoing v-beam again. The info in this forum is very helpful. I did go to a "name" dermatologist in Manhattan and made the assumption that I was in safe hands. I'm still hoping that her knowlege and equipment are up to date and that I'll end up eventually with a good result. But I defintely wasn't prepared for so much bruising.

They gave me Eucerin to use "after the peeling" begins. After reading around here and elsewhere I used Vit K and Arnica instead. There's been no peeling as yet.

I've got jury duty starting Monday morning. Perhaps my face will scare them into sending me home!
