Could this actually help against oily skin? Does this actually have some side effects or intolerance to it?
I had Accutane treatment in the past too. Lutein/zeaxanthin will certainly help you with your oily skin, but it won't happen overnight. As I mentionned a few months ago in a previous post, my skin, started to be much less oily after a few months of treatment and I still benefit from this great improvement today. Be patient. This product really works and it works even better after a certain period of time. Good luck to you.

Unfortunately I can’t offer a definitive conclusion because this is not the only thing I am doing, but I have had some amazing results lately with my Type 2. I definitely did not have the instant reaction from the Lutein that some people describe, but about a month into taking it I noticed that breakouts were rare. I am also taking Spironolactone and Oracea, but I had been taking these for many months before. The only other new thing I added was a compounded “triple cream” a dermatologist suggested that is soolantra, finacea, and metrogel. I don’t think this was what started the improvement but I do think it has helped as a preventive and made my skin smoother.

So I can’t say for sure what Lutein has done, but it hasn’t seemed to hurt and I think it has helped with breakouts and oil production. It might be a combination of the things since they weren’t working as well before I added the last two.
Glad you have had some amazing results lately. I'm pretty sure that lutein/Zeaxanthin helped you a lot. Make sure you take some fat food (like canola oil) when you take the product as it helps to get better absorption. I was using Soolantra when I started my lutein intake, but stopped to use it during the same week. Never took it again. The only thing that can explain my results is my lutein/Zeaxanthin treatment. Good luck to you.

There hasn't been as much success with phenotype 1 or phenotype 2 with this treatment. I have noticed that it appears to help a little with phenotype 4 since it appears to dry up my skin a bit. Wouldn't it be an incredible idea if about 10K Rosaceans got together, each donating $1, and decided to do a clinical study on this treatment and hire some reputable clinicians who did a double blind, placebo controlled, peer reviewed paper to completely figure out if this treatment works for rosacea or not? Of course, getting together 10K rosaceans who can agree on something like this would be a miracle in itself. The other option is for the 10K members to vote on what clinical study should be funded if this treatment isn't what they all want accomplished. Basically you have to rely on anecdotal reports in this thread about this treatment and try it yourself to see if it works for you.

            • Two years after

It’s been two year now since I started this thread. I did it for one reason. I know pretty well how we can feel when suffering from this disease and I wanted people to know about my own experience and the fact that there could be a simple treatment out there that seems more efficient than anything else.

Like many of you, I tried almost everything from Soolantra to Accutane, etc. These treatments were effective but they are a far cry from the results I got with lutein & zeaxanthin. As I mentioned, I took these pills to protect my vision, but it took only a few days to realize the impact it had on my skin. I continue to take lutein & zeaxanthin every morning.

For me it still the miracle cure it was from the beginning (results were better after a few months). It’s so effective that I never think about it anymore.

I sincerely hope it will help others.

Good luck to all of you,

              Marcello

              • Marcello,
It doesn't seem to be two years since you posted this, it seems just a little while ago! Wish more would try it and post their results. I have referred to your post along with an actual clinical paper that refers to a "study [that] indicates that the administration of lutein and zeaxanthin provides multiple benefits to the skin" as well as multiple references to lutein/zeazanthin posts, clinical papers, and videos on this subject in this post, as well as this post about nutritional deficiencies in rosaceans. So I have tried to spread the word about this as well. I take Puritan Pride brand once every day. Appreciate you coming back and confirming this is still working for you since many post success in certain treatments and we never hear from them ever again.

I have the same question here.
I'm also going to give this a try as from next week, I'm not using any other topicals or oral medication at this moment so IF any impact it can be completely pointed to the Lutein cure.

Fyi: my Rosacea is mainly type 1, baseline redness and telangiectasia on nose and cheeks. Furthermore a mixed skin, dry on some places but also greasy skin.

The current classification has upgraded from four Subtypes to six phenotypes:
What you currently have are now two different phenotypes:
                        Phenotype 2 and Phenotype 3

                          Hi Momof,

I’m (still) suffering from papulopustular rosacea (subtype 2), but with this treatment, 95% of the symptoms are gone. My skin is also a lot less oily than it was. Sometimes, I notice small red spots (most of the time without any bump or pustule), which are usually gone the day after. As I wrote in my last post, it is so efficient that I really don’t think about this disease anymore.

                          I wish you good luck.

I tend to agree with you that while Marcello gives a glowing report that this worked for him, we certainly are not getting other anecdotal reports that this has worked as it has done for Marcello (reports substantiating Marcello are slim). I do think that this treatment does seem to help dry up my skin since I have oily skin and whether it does anything for my eyes I really can't say, but I am continuing to take it as a supplement with all my other vitamins/minerals daily. There may be some benefit in taking lutein/zeazanthin? I did find the post by GolfisGreat (post no 131 at RF) who does agree with Marcello.
