Obviously donations are not working. It is either advertisements or a subscription based website is the choice to survive as a forum. Sad state of affairs. It is part of what has happened in the last ten years why forums have lost their appeal and rosaceans prefer social media. Have you read the recent article in The Atlantic?

What is the future of the Rosacea Support site, David? I agree with the above posters that this site is a very valuable archive of information, and your other site is also full of helpful information.

Hi all, I suffer from rosacea and depend on this site, though never found the need to create an account until now. This thread distresses me and I was not aware of the difficulty to maintain the site. Personally, I am more than happy to contribute $20 AUD each month towards the cost of maintenance to help keep the site going without losing any data or function. I would love to see how I can help further to avoid losing this site. Do we have a donation section already and is there a way we can start automated monthly donations by members?

I will donate as well. This site has been a lifeline for me and I can’t thank all you wonderful people enough.

David Pascoe owns this site. The first post in this thread, David states, "If the community wants this site to remain online then a home a stable long term home will need to be found." At post number 11 David states, "This would still require someone to pay for it and look after it."

There is quite a bit of volunteer work required to keep a site like this going. As David states in post number 31, "It is also very difficult in the long term to have someone culling the spam and replying to `help I can't login' emails..."

There was a time some years ago when there were plenty of volunteers who would be happy moderate this site, but those days are gone.

The RRDi has offered to take over RF if David so chooses, on the condition we know how much this is going to cost per year and if we have the donations to pay for it.

The RRDi has a donate page that allows for automated donations through Square (Apple Pay or Google Pay) or PayPal.

Another issue is the cost of migration and paying for support which has already been discussed in post number 14 where David also states, "So there is no such thing as a $20 a month option."

David has clearly stated that he knows how to migrate this data over to vBulletin Cloud. We await David's decision on who will 'pay for it and look after it.'

Quite right. Getting donations is even more difficult. The RRDi may also eventually have to shut down to lack of donations. It is a sad situation. Volunteering has also dropped as well. May I recommend you put a link to this thread in the 'December 2021' blurb you have at the top of the site if anyone wants to post something.

This is sad news, but I understand where you are coming from. I hope some sort of solution can be reached – even if that is just keeping the site as a searchable archive, as was suggested above. It is a scary thing to be told that you have an 'incurable' chronic skin condition and this site provides a wealth of information and emotional support that helped me immeasurably when I was first diagnosed.

For what it's worth, I would be happy to see advertising on here if it made the difference.

If you never ever ever want to ask for any level of support (why are there no registration emails, why am I spam blocked, what does version xyz of phone abc held upside down not post properly? Then you may consider support optional. This is unwise.

I am confident you know what the best options are; so if you need the RRDi. let me know what and we will consider if we have enough money. Our funds are low but we can spend some money, if the RRDi gets something out of this, i.e., a donate button, recognition on the RF site, (something). I have spent time trying to assist in learning about vBulletin. The advantages of IC over vBulletin are we get SUPPORT included with the $49/month and it shows that you can migrate vBulletin over and there is NO CHARGE for this.

I can't find the instruction on how to migrate vBulletin to the vBulletin Cloud.

You obviously have much experience with vBulletin but if you are paying $110 AU dollars a month it would seem logical to simply switch the Bronze package asap to save money. If you want the RRDi to take over after you have done this just let me know in this thread. If you need help in all this I will be glad to assist in the migration or what you delegate to me to do.

Not exactly sure what you are referring to and can only guess. If you mean putting a donate button on the site and asking for a donation to keep the site going ad free, well, I have a lot of experience with this since we have a donate button on the RRDi website and you may find donations come in and keep it going. Up to you since you are in total control. If the RRDi takes over, we will put a donate button on the RF website because we rely totally on the public for donations.

What donate button are you referring to that keeps the site ad free? It is like the one I explained above?

The RF site is already ad free. It will remain ad free on the vBulletin cloud if the site is imported over to vBulletin Cloud.

When you check out you can opt in on removing any reference to vBulletin at the bottom of the website on the home page, etc., for $149/year, called the 'branding option' which will "Remove the attribution of vBulletin from the global footer." That doesn't matter since the site has had this for over twenty years and we certainly don't have that kind of money to waste.
