  • trying raw honey + coconut oil

Im gonna basically give a list of things i tried and follow it with my personal results, just for anyone curious about previous results with other products, i am more on the dry skin end of spectrum, also have sensitive skin

Elidel- good, but only works temp, basically stops the body from making seb derm for a certain amout of time (anti-inhibtor i believe?), rumored to cause skin cancer tho
Ketocononzle (butchered) - good, used in cream form not shampoo, only temp relief, drying, unsure of individual results because used with elidel
Head and Shoulders P Zinc - good, most reliable product i used, effects weared off over a 3 week period tho, drying
Head and Shoulders Sel Sul - good, almost effective as p zinc, effects only temp relief, drying
born to be mild - too strong, stopped
Cerave - solid moisturizer for sensitive skin
vaseline - greasy , heavy, good temp barrier for seb derm tho
sulfur 5% sulfacetamide 10% cleanser - good for acne, relieves seb derm temp, non irratating, little drying
coconut oil (used very briefly) - prob most effective thing ive used, caused acne so i stopped, prob applied to much
Good diet (low sugar, low sat fat, no milk) - Def improvement

so i read auburn's post a while back but wanted to try the popular perscriptions and shampoos first, i have found some temporary relief but at the cost of constantly putting drying chemicals on my face, and following that with moisturizers. wanna try to shoot for some long term relief, may try to ween myself off some chemicals as or before i start treatment. I will post results on a daily to semi daily basis, unsure about photos, all my cameras are not the best qualitity.

Day - 4, Skin is feels very smooth, redness+burning+itching seems to be reduced, tried eating icecream and sat fats and the reaction was pretty minimal. I think it is too early to get excited, but so far honey+coco nut oil (virgin) has been treating me well.

Day-8 So far this treatment has just be miracouls. The first couple days i had short bursts of flares, but i used some vaseline to control it. The small use of vaseline i use is not in the offical treatment plan, so using that for yourself would be a risk. At day 8, my scalp is feeling less dry and flaking, i never knew it could feel this good. My skin seems to be under control. I have been sleeping on my seb derm and i wake up with no reaction. I have been eating more sugar and the reaction is very small. I am pretty pumped up on this honey treatment right now. Next time i see my derm, I'm probably gonna tell her that she advise more of her patients about this. She may consider it, she is not like most of the stubborn derms i've seen. For pimples, i've noticed few super small ones, they usually do not last more than a day. My roomates have seen me with the honey mask on, you should of seen their wtf faces. It does take some dedication if you wanna stick to this plan. Ehh im just rambeling, ill comment again in a few days or so.

Glad to hear that the honey method can help you, the honey masks seem to make your skin drier and flaky, but the coconut oil will help it smoothier, you might see some up and down symptoms in the next few days, so please keep up with your treatment.

              Day 14

Thanks for the feedback. I have noticed some ups and downs, nothing too difficult to handle. Symptoms are under control. I even gotten some compliments saying my skin looks like it has glow to it, asking if ive done something different. What a nice bonus. Its kind of frustrating now though, now that my skin looks nice my parents and even one of my derms/laser expert thinks i i do not have seb derm and my skin just outgrew some temparary thing instead. Agh, i wish that was the case. Even so, treatment is working so i should not be one to complain. Hair still less greasy, skin less red, less dry, less itchty. The good stuff. On a side note, I got a v-beam earlier today for some broken blood vessels. I got a little purpura. I trust this procedure and i think it is worth looking in to if you suffer from broken blood vessels. Also, make sure you get a derm you trust before you decide to do it. By the way its pretty expensive, compared to something like IPL.

                Interesting post

Good to hear things have gone well on the coconut and honey route as well as with the laser. I have considered trying the laser to touch up what I would hope be my last indications of "THE RED FACE" that I used to feel were going to grow into this nightmare. So many come so far on this board.

The procedure is about 500.00 -Fotofacial-

I am considering it, I feel the redness is from some sunburns from about 8 years ago

What would you say? Would you message me before and after pics?

                Those tell me so much.

Either way, your words would be beneficial.

Ill just respond here. The first thing i reccomend is to try IPL first. It is cheaper, you may find it to be effective. I had 5 treatments where i saw improvement in IPL, but eventually it became ineffective. Then i decided i should try v-beam, and i went to an average derm and all he had was some Gemini laser (yag) idk. He seems really confident so i agreed to it. The intensity was much greater and when i was finished my face was extremeley irritated. He felt like he took a needle, poked it into my skin, and then dragged it across my face. He also did some Electrolysis/Electrocoagulation, which i believe is what used to be the "go to" vein removal method, when all these lasers weren't around. The downtime was not fun. I also recieved two small blisters which did not heal completley for like 3 months. I really thought it was going to scar. When all was said and done some of the redness was removed, but it was spotty. Some random spots did not get effected. Between the downtime and the blisters it was not worth it. I still did not know i had sed derm at this point by the way. After this procedure i didn't no more messing around. My trust it local derms were abolished so i decided to find the best laser specialist in the state (new jersey). I found Dr. Goldberg, is crudentials were stunning, and he was constanstly booked. It took a month for me to actually get to him. Here is a link if your curious http://www.skinandlasers.com/, he's on live tv on this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hEXZ32BIuw. After my first v-beam i had purpura, lasted for a week, and my blood vessels gradually improved. They say full results may take 6 months to see, which i think is cool. I just had my second one, barely any purpura just one small spot. If i can get a hand on my pics from my derms, id post em, ill ask next time i see them. For sun burn, yes sun burn can cause broken blood vessels. I am a sunscreen maniac now. Most of mine were caused my injuries though. Thatss about sums it up. By the way if you see alot of spelling errors it is because i am doomed of a speller without spell check.

I was using coconut oil as a natural moisturizer and it was wonderful. However, I didn't really like oiliness on my oily skin, and I think it made me more prone to acne.

Have you tried using unrefined shea butter? I'm having a hard time trying to find this stuff.

I have dryish skin so i like the oilyness, also if i use just a pea drop i usually am okay regarding acne.

                        Day 26

Few points, i slept with honey mask on, i believe it did more harm than good. Thinking of getting tee-tree shampoo to alternate with h&S (only for hair). The treatment has been consistant. No real complaints. I actually started oil pulling. Im using coconut oil for my teeth now. The stuff is incredible.
