  • AAD presentation: Face to face with Rosacea

The American Academy of Derms held it's anual meeting at the beginning of this month. Rosacea was one of the topics discussed.

This is a link to a summary of a presentation regarding rosacea:
    Face to Face with Rosacea

These are some quotes from the article above:
"rosacea treatments are more effective than ever, offering a variety of therapies that are having successful results."
"Today dermatologists offer a variety of treatment
options that can achieve successful results and fit into even the busiest
    lifestyle."

What???? So it looks like we're all cured. Even the busiest lifestyle!!!!! Then what are we doing here?
No one will invest in a drug for rosacea since rosacea is "cured", that's obvious.

This must be changed. This has to change or we'll be using metrogel and finacea for the rest of our lives.

Like Brady said, maybe we can make a difference. If you're as pissed as I am about the current state of the matter, maybe you should join the RRDi and help out.

      How

I've heard it over and over in these posts. How do we increase Rosacea awareness when it's thought of as a cosmetic problem and nothing more?

      So..how?
I don't want to live with it. I refuse to.

wow that article may have just set back any progress that was being made against rosacea. And I never knew how effective metrogel was at reducing redness (sarcastically) That article appeared to be up to date like 8 years ago. And they still consider avoiding triggers to be a form of treatment, unbelievable.

Umm yeah, fits my busy lifestyle. The one where I'm busy trying to avoid people because I look and feel like sh&t. Do they mean that busy lifestyle?

But there's a new improved metrogel! It kinda works like putting battery acid on my face. I've added it to my list of triggers to avoid. Who says avoiding triggers doesn't work?

I agree with Adrian. If you are upset with the amount of research and time being put into our disease, then stand up and make a difference. Brady has put in loads of time setting up the RRDi and without support of fellow Rosaceans it just won't happen.

If you rely on this forum or the NRS for answers to your rosacea then you are sadly mistaken. I suggest you visit the RRDi website and / or email Brady.

No one is going to hear us bitch and moan on this forum.. no one.

3 IPL and tried Accutane. Accutane stopped the oil flow but caused other problems. Now just using a mix of Sea Kelp and EGF every night.

In the days when I bothered to go and see a dermatoligist he was at least honest enough to say that the small repertoire of topical and oral treatments available may help a little, but dont expect any substantial progress, and that only laser/IPL might offer some real hope.
4 years later at a conference (conferences should be cutting edge) these guys are really optimistic about the same bunch of products as he was so pessimistic about 4 years earlier!!
Only when discussing rosacea could serious medical people get away with such nonsense!!
