  • Suggestions for tackling persistent sebhorroeic dermatitis, especially scalp

Hi, I'm new on the forum and have joined to ask if anyone can help me with my seb derm. I've had it, along with rosacea, for a few years now but over the last few months it's began to affect my whole scalp. I am a male without much hair up top so this really shows up - forehead and scalp can go very red, with a particularly noticeable sort of cloud on the forehead, and the scalp gets very hot and prickly. Also affects round nose, behind ears. I've tried all the usual anti fungal creams, steroid creams, medicated shampoos, even anti fungal pills. All with minimal to no effect...

Thanks for the reply but yeah I do have rosacea - particularly affecting my nose - and I have been taking doxycycline (which is what oracea is isn't it?) for years. And i do use specialist face creams as well. I am totally at a loss over to what to do other than just live with it which i find quite difficult at times. The rosacea on nose is also persistent and quite bad so the combination of that plus the now worsened seb derm is pretty unpleasant. I moved a while back and am living in a hot country and had hoped that might help but it seems to have made it worse.

        hi

hello, oracea is indeed doxy, but it is time released to a certain extent. I've tried other doxy with not as much sucess for whatever reason. 100mg etc. do you watch your diet as well? even while on doxy if I go crazy and eat a bunch of carbs like half a pizza or something, that can still cause me trouble...

Tea tree oil. Or other demodex treatments.

            Hope's relief.

            Hey Park.

I use a product called Hope's Relief. It is a natural product and It is a god send for me.
Twice a day I just shampoo and condition my hair - sometimes just once.

My seb derm was terrible last year, this has really helped.
After I get out of the shower I also put emu oil in my hair, which is easy because I keep it short.
I probably don't need the emu oil though, it just feels soothing and I feel it helps.
