Bare Minerals--Bare Escentuals

This is the first make up that
This is the first make up that I have been able to wear in 25 years. I actually think the rosacea is even better. But most important, it doesn't make me want to tear my skin off within minutes of putting it on.

Mineral Make-up
Although the coverage & application was pretty good, I found upon the first application, the product made my face itch, I thought it was because I hadn't worn make-up in so long, I just wasn't used to it. I used it daily for about 3 weeks, my skin became progressively drier, and then my Rosacea started flaring up. I was getting dry patches, redness, tightness & break outs again. The rosacea had been under control before I started using Bare Minerals. Now I'm fighting to get it back under control again & searching for another make-up, considering Belle Saison

Bare Escentuals products
I've been using Bare Escentuals for 7 months and I'm pleased with it overall. If not applied properly, the foundation gives a mask like appearance. Less is definitely more. It is the first makeup, however, that does not make my face break out. I haven't read many comments from people who had regular acne and oiliness from adolescence on and then developed rosacea. I struggle with both and it has been so hard finding products that work. I would like to try a liquid foundation in the fall, but for people with oily skin in the t-zone all year, loose powder foundation is wonderful. It does provide great coverage and you can reapply it (after blotting) without feeling like you've got an extra layer of gunk on. Since I also have ocular rosacea, Bare Escentuals are the ONLY products I use on my eyes. Everything else I've tried irritates my eyelids within 24 hours.

Bare Escentuals
I tried bare minerals a couple of years ago. I eventually gave the make up to a friend who didn't have skin problems and she liked it but not enough to keep herself in supply. I've always had sensitive skin but during and after my last two pregnancies I developed some kind of rash on my chin and then it eventually spread all the way around my mouth. It was mostly patches of dry skin that would stay red. Sometimes it would itch and other times it didn't. It was very easity irritated however and it was starting to effect my self-esteem. I finally decided to consult a doctor about it. First the doctor said it was eczema but after a steroid cream that was prescribed worsened my condition the doctor then decided that I had rosacea and prescribed metrogel, an anti-inflamatory topical gel. The metrogel did improve the rashe's appearance and eventually with continued use the itchy, burning, dry patches of skin dissepated. Now, this was 6 years ago that I first experienced this rash and I have not had a reoccurrance since. I've done alot of research on the internet about eczema, rosacea and psoriasis. The doctor insists that since the metrogel worked that I definitely have rosacea. Mind you this doctor is not a dermatologist so I am not convinced that I had either eczema or rosacea. I do however still have sensitive skin. Through my research, I found that cetaphil facial cleanser came highly recommended for problem skin. I tried it and it works wonderfully for me. I use the bar not the liquid cleanser. It has always been trial and error for me concerning make up and skin care products. I started using Principal Secret skin care products and they do not irritate my skin. They work wonderfully, I am very impressed. When I saw an infomercial for bare escentuals, I thought it was the answer to my search for a make up that would perform well and not irritate my skin. I eagerly ordered my starter kit and couldn't wait to try it. After one day of wearing it my skin was very irritated. I couldn't understand why this was happening. I'd seen testimonials on the infomercial about people with rosacea having a positive experience with the make up. I discontinued using it for a couple of days until my skin felt better. I tried it again, but at the end of the day my skin was screaming to be relieved from this make up. I also noticed that as the day wore on the make up settled in fine lines and my pores making them really noticeable. I was so disappointed and I felt like the company selling this make up was being dishonest with its customers. I did a little more research on the internet about this make up to see if any other women had experienced the problems I had. What I found was that this make up, like many other mineral and light relfecting make ups contain the mineral mica. Mica is a number one irritant for sensitive skin and rosacea. I was shocked, why would this company make such claims about how their make up was so good for any skin type. Were the people on their infomercials claiming they had rosacea and that the make up was like a miracle for them really actors? Needless to say, I am left still wondering if any other women have had similar problems with this make up and were as disappointed as I was. I did write to the owner of the company explaining what happened to me, but I never received a response from her. I still see her all time on QVC promoting her mineral make ups and feel sorry for all those hopefuls out there that buy it believing the "miracle makeup" will live up to its advertising.

Disappointing blotchy coverage
A year ago I travelled out of town to Denver where they have a retail outlet. Having seen the commercials and excitedly hoping THIS might be the coverage I needed, I went to the store and spent $175 on various powders and brushes. Despite a salesperson saying they were matching to my skintone, I applied it the next morning and could see the color was a huge mistake (too dark). I returned to the store and the manager finally agreed to exchange it for a lighter tone (they didn't have "Light" color in stock---no good reason to sell a client the wrong product). Travelled home, tried it again, and saw it still didn't look right --- too blotchy, possibly too dark, and certainly not the rosacea coverage I expected on the various patches and areas showing veining. Did nothing with it for a year. Returned to Denver on business a year later and, having already spent so much, went back to the store and asked for an even lighter foundation color. Complained about lack of coverage, so they sold me additional product ("multi-tasking" powder and a different type of brush) to brush on as a concealer. Disappointing. Doesn't cover well, not even when applying with a wet sponge one or more times. Overall, it has a drying effect, doesn't give that "perfect" coverage effect, seems to make lines and poress more visible, makes the face look "blotchy" and just generally is a total waste of the $250 I spent.

Disappointed
I too bought the Bare Minerals makeup thinking that I was doing something good and healthy for my skin. What I experienced was major breakouts all over my face. I've never had an acne problem, however, I do have sensitive skin and also suffer from eczema flare ups. After wearing the makeup I noticed little bumps all over my face and patches of eczema started to appear as well. There is definitely something in the ingredients that i'm allergic to. At first I thought it could be my skin care regimen. So, I switched my cleanser brand and when that didn't work I stopped using the Bare Minerals makeup for a week and my face totally calmed down. It's still got a ways to go before it's back to what it was prior to usuing BM. I would not recommend this line to anyone with sensitive skin.

Far from perfect.
Given my current skin condition (rosacea and seb derm) and my preferences for foundation coverage, this is the best I've found, though it is far from perfect. With some practice, one can apply it as lightly or heavily as one likes, and it covers redness fairly well without having to be heavily applied. And from a distance it looks great. However, whenever I look up close, my skin looks powdery, even with the lightest application. And if you have any dry skin or fine wrinkles, it can make those look a little crepey. The only way to solve this is to pat the face with water after application, and even that doesn't produce ideal results. Maybe I'm just picky, though, as I want my skin to look great but like there's nothing on it.

Allergic Reaction
I have been using this makeup for approximately 9 months. At first I thought it was great - I have hereditary dark circles under my eyes and the makeup did a terrific job of covering these. Although the look was powdery - I loved the coverage it provided. As time went on I started to notice red patches on my face that were also dry and scaly. I thought this was due to the winter months and increased my moisturizer use to incude emu oil and Vitamin E oil. The patches remained. I noticed that I began to have bumps on my face around my lip line area. At first I thought this was dry skin and when washing my face one night I scrubbed this area in an effort to remove the dry skin. The next morning I awoke to a large amount of tiny bumps all around my mouth and some on my the side of my face. My doctor took one look, asked me if I used Bare Minerals and told me to immediately STOP! She had already had one patient with the same allergic reaction to the makeup after months of use. She gave me some steroid cream to clear up the bumps and I bought all hypoallergic makeup, cleansers and moisturizers (the latter by Neutrogena). $200 later - Dr.'s Appnt., new makeup, new cleansers, steroid cream - - - I can safely say that I would never recommend this makeup to anyone with sensitive skin. As I look back I realize that my skin has been growing progressively dryer with an increasing amount of red scaly patches of dry skin. YUCK! I am returning the makeup along with an account of my disappointing (and expensive!) experience - I hope to get a response - but won't hold my breath. What are good cleansers, makeup, and anti-aging products for sensitive skin? HELP!

I am highly unsatisfied!!!!
I was so relieved to hear that I am not alone! I started using this makeup and was so excited at first! The 2nd time I wore it, I my face was itching like crazy! the 3rd time I wore it, right above my eyebrow began to form a huge welp!!! I was having an adverse reaction to this makeup. Afterwards my skin went into hiatis. I now have gone from very oily to extremely dry with red scaly patches on under my eyes and the sides of my nose. My pores look huge there and inflammed. And to make matters worse, I am seeing creped taughtish skin under my eyes along with a bumpy texture!!! It seemed to happen overnight. I am devasted, and don't know if it will be permant. To top that off, the makeup sucks! I was a makeup artist for years, and had hope that this would be a great simple quick fix to the same old lengthy applications. This makeup is cakey and settles in pores and when mixed with your natural oils turns to MUD! So much for natural minerals...PLEASE, IF ANYONE HAD EXPERINCED THE UNDER EYE CREPED SKIN AND RED BUMPS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOUR STORY IS AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING ABOUT IT! I HAVE JUST TURNED 31 JAN 2006 AND THERE IS NO WAY THAT SOMEONE CAN GO FROM HAVEING TOTALLY NORMAL SKIN TO REDNESS AND WRINKLES OVERNIGHT! HELP!!! P.S. I HAVE NEVER HAD ROSACEA!!! NOT SURE WHAT TO THINK. IT HAS TO BE BARE MINERALS. Note: i read another post about bumps around mouth, but i haven't had that problem, just eye/nose area.

Bare Escentuals Works For Me
I have been using Base Escentuals for the past seven months. While I do agree it can be drying to the skin I am over all pleased with the product. I have never been a big make up person so I only use the the multi tasking on a daily bases and that seems to do the trick for me. It does a good job evening out my skin tone and covering up bumps. The trick is using the proper brush for the task you are trying to accomplish. If you normally don't wear foundation I would reccomend saving your money and skipping the foundations and Mineral Veil. I think if you don't normally wear foundation it can look fake if you are not used to it.

in 2 weeks this RUINED my skin
i'm so grateful to have read these posts about bare minerals. i bought a bunch of products from qvc, thinking i was doing something good for my face because it was gentle. the first few days i used it, i did get complements on my skin and that i looked pretty. the makeup does cover redness very well. in a few days i felt my face was dry and tight. then i thought i was getting an acne breakout because i had pms. trying to cover the marks, i used more product, which made the problem much, much worse. i now have bumps everywhere. my skin has red itchy patches and is so uncomfortable. i have an appt. with the derm. on monday morning -- now i know this makeup is to blame. my skin was looking the best it had in a long time and now i have to start all over. please, please don't believe the lies on the infomercial if you have sensitive skin.

Bismuth Oxychloride
I too tried Bare Essentials foundation powder. About 10 minutes after putting it on, I could feel my face turning red. I have had this happen with other mineral foundations also so I did a little research to see what was the common ingredient in the makeups I tried. I discovered the "trigger" is Bismuth Oxychloride. Stay away from it and be careful. Many many of the so called pure mineral makeups list Bismuth Oxychloride right at the top of their list.

Major Allergic Reaction
I wanted to try the product because after having 3 kids my face was over sensitive. I got the product and it covered really well. However, after the 3rd time of applying it, I broke out in hives all over my body and ending up in the hospital with a severe allergic reaction. I didn't put the two together right away. After the doctor asking me if I had tried anything new, been around anything new and so on, I couldn't think of anything. So I was prescribed meds for the week. I don't take meds usually. I go the natural route, however, my throat began to swell shut and it was necessary. After about a week of being on the meds and feeling better, I needed to take my kids out and do some running around, I then applied the bare minerals, and within a couple of minutes, I broke out in itchy hives again. It was then I realized that it was the bare minerals that was causing this horrible allergic reaction. I have contacted the company and hope that they will refund my money, take the product back and stop all future shipments. I guess I will just have to see.

allergic to bare minerals
I have never been allergic to any type of makeup until I started using bare minerals. I recently went on a trip to Minnesota to visit a friend and used hers. I loved it so I decided to buy some myself. I spend $150 on bare minerals products. After returning to Arkansas a week later I started noticing red bite-like bumps slowly appearing on my face. Then my left eye lid became red and swollen. I finally realized it was from the makeup when the bumps became worse. I quit using the makeup about 2 weeks ago and my skin is finally back to normal. There is definitely something in the makeup that causes some type of allergic reaction to some people, and I have never had allergic reactions to makeup or even sensative skin for that matter. My face has always been clear and healthy.

Not so wonderful
I have dry, sometimes sensitive skin. I have developed what I believe to be eczema in the past, but my cheeks are always dry, irritated, and pink and I have begun to suspect I have rosacea. This product didn't give me the horrible reactions some women described, but it did leave my face feeling absolutely parched. Not to mention a little irritated because of brushing all that powder over my face over and over. After applying the powders, I used a moisturizing toner spray (also soothing) which usually works whenever my face starts to feel dry and/or irritated. Nothing doing! Within 5 minutes, my face felt dry all over again. Also, the inital look was beautiful, but within about half an hour the makeup seemed to settle into my pores and fine lines. I'm 25 and have always had barely noticeable pores, but this powder seemed to magnify all my imperfections. I recommend, if this powder works for you, getting a higher-quality brush. I never used the brush they sent because it didn't feel soft at all. I found out later that their brushes don't have a very good reputation and in fact there are often problems with the bristles falling out. I much prefer a natural-hair brush that is soft and gentle.

Used to have great skin...
I am so glad to have found this info. I am only 32 and used to have great skin (about 9 months ago). That is until I started using Bare Minerals. At first, like many of you, I LOVED the product. I thought it was easy to apply, and it looked pretty natural. Mysteriously now about three weeks ago, I've been waking up with red spots on my cheekbones and severely dry skin. I've never had sensitive skin or even the slightly dryness, now I itch and when I do put make up on, it looks terrible. I couldn't figure out the cause, then I did some research and I see that I'm not alone. As of today, I will never put this stuff on my face again!

Stay Away if you have Rosacea!
I bought Bare Minerals, and I loved it -- at first. But, after a few weeks of use, I started noticing incrased redness in my face. I am extremely pale, and the pinkish undertone of the fondation that matched my skin just made my red skin look weirdly pink and shiney. I talked to someone at Sephora and was told that the odd color was because I wasn't using the mineral veil, which is supposed to create a matte finish. So, I bought that, and after 2 days the monthes of work (and avoidance of all of those wonderful foods I love -- spicey foods, hot coffee, red wine) to my rosacea under control was ruined. My face looked worse than it had in years. Why? Because the MINERAL VEIL CONTAINS CORNSTARCH!! A major "trigger." Watch out for cornstarch. It is common in mineral makeups and in powders that are "talc free." They sell it as if avoiding the talc will be better for you skin. It's not! Also, if you want a good quick reference for common rosacea triggers and lists of product ingredients, visit www.cosmeticcop.com. I've found it to be very helpful.

FINALLY!
Hello! I was also relieved to have found these reviews! I have recently been experiencing many of the things that everyone on here has described (like the redness, itching, breaking out, etc) and thought it was just me, my cleanser, or just fate I suppose. Now I realize that all along it could have been and most likely is the Bare Minerals...wow..I never realized before! I am going to stop using it all together tomorrow and see if I dont improve! What a horrible company promoting products that irritate sensitive skin...how could they!?!

STAY AWAY FROM BARE ESCENTUALS
Immediately my forehead itched like crazy but I dismissed it. A week later, my eyelids itched like crazy and agian I dismissed it. A month later my lips broke out into a terrible rash/irritation. The corners of my mouth became so irritated and dry, I couldn't open my mouth to eat without them cracking and bleeding. My bottom lip became swollen and oozed puss. The red bumps went around my whole lip line around my mouth. I finally realized it was the makeup. THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK EVERYONE. Terrible, Terrible, Terrible!!!

Allergic Reaction
I tried Bare Escentuals starter kit for about two weeks. After the second time I used it, I noticed my skin was itchy and my eyes were itchy. I had some red blotchy rashes on my cheeks. I dismissed it, because I am prone to food allergies, but after about two weeks, I saw it occur every time I used bare minerals. I didn't have the same problem with the all over face blush - but did with the mineral veil and bare minerals foundation. I'm not sure if it's just one of them, or all of them, but I'm going to take it back and ask for my money back. Beware of any itchiness when you use it. I know it works for many people, but it definitely creates a bad reaction w/ my skin.

horrible!
I have been a professional makeup artist for over 20 years and this has to be the worst reaction I have ever seen! (on myself) I have worked with and worn everything from the most expensive, quality make up to the cheapest no-name brands and I have to say that I am beyond disappointed with this product. I bought approx $85.00 worth of this product in one of their boutiques because I bought the hype! I thought that that I too could look flawless without wearing "heavy" makeup ....This product caused my face to itch and break out into tiny bumps around my lips and chin. I developed eczema-like spots around the eyes and bridge of my nose and large bumps on my cheeks. I tried to blame it on my moisturizer so I continued to try to use the Bare-minerals; since I had invested a large amount of money... I tried it over and over until it was obvious the make-up was the culprit! The last and final time I applied Bare Minerals I had large hives on my chin and cheeks! The coverage is horrible and the colors are pink based so anyone with olive skin appears to have a gray mask sitting on top of their face! I cannot believe people actually purchase makeup on TV when you cannot match your skin. They have great marketing but a crappy product.

So it is the makeup...
I bought Bare Minerals a few weeks ago and initially loved the powder, but this past weekend bumps broke out all over my forehead, around my eyes and under my chin. I was certain it was a reaction to food I ate at a restaurant, but had suspicions about my makeup. Finally, after Googling the symptoms, I came across this posting. I'm going to stop using the makeup to see if my face clears. I think its the Bare Minerals.

perioral dermatitis
The rash one reader has is perioral dematitis. I developed a rash around my mouth after using Sheer Cover, and the dermatologist said it was not rosacea, but a disorder that happens around your mouth, hence the name peri-oral. The prescribed medication for this is Metrogel, which is why the rash cleared up after using it.

Triggered rosacea
I bought this make-up because I thought it would be quicker and easier to use than my usual foundation/powder combo. (I've always had pretty decent-looking skin and have never had an allergic reaction to any kind of make-up that I've ever tried.) The foundation and mineral veil did look great on, but after about an hour of wearing it, my skin started burning like someone had thrown sulfuric acid in my face. Even after washing it off, the burning sensation didn’t stop. By the next morning, I had huge red welts on each cheek and about 30 large, swollen pimples on my chin, nose and forehead – and my skin was still burning. I went to a dermatologist ASAP, who gave me a prescription cream (Elidel) to use for two weeks that stopped the burning sensation and reduced the size and color of the welts, though they didn’t completely disappear. The blemishes also healed themselves in a week or so. However, I now have extremely sensitive skin in the area where the welts were. I have heavy flushing on my cheeks and all of my usual skin care products also cause the welts to reappear. When I returned to the dermatologist for a follow-up, he told me that sometime severe allergic reactions can trigger a rosacea flare, especially in fair-skinned people. He put me on doxycycline, which I’ve been on for about a month, and it has helped with the redness and swelling. I’m hoping that with another month of treatment, my skin will return to normal (or at least somewhat close to normal). All in all, this is one of the worst experiences I’ve had, and the absolute worst experience I’ve ever had with a make-up. It’s devastating to go from having normal skin to having huge red welts and profuse acne literally overnight. Buyer beware!

Eye Probelms with Bare Mineral
I started out buying 250 dollars worth of Bare Minerals and have never had any allergic reactions before except for hives with pennacillin. I developed Giant Papillary Conjuncivitus in my right eye (my eyelid is swollen and I am very teary and irritated in the eye) and even with steroid eye drops it does not seem to go away. I suspected it was the Bare minerals face power. I have stopped using it and my eye seems to be getting better. This eye condition is usually only seen in contact lens wearers which I do not wear. So my eye doc said it was not a "textbook" case. There must be some mineral or something that is irritant in the makeup.

Terrible for Sensitive Skin
I feel very lucky that I didn't shell out the bucks for this stuff. My girlfriend offered to do my makeup for my wedding using the Bare Minerals that she had just started using. Thankfully we did a trial go of it a couple weeks before the wedding. She spent an hour using the arsenal she had bought and within a few hours my face was covered in small red bumps and by the next morning, patches of flaking skin. Even after cleansing my face thoroughly, my cheeks were so irriated, I wanted claw the skin off. Horrible stuff for people who have either sensitive skin or rosacea. Their marketing people are fully taking advantage of us by preying on our life long desire to have clear looking skin, great coverage, and a non-reactive product. Their claim that Bare Minerals is appropriate for even the most sensitive skin is rediculous. Buyer Beware.

Worst breakouts EVER
I used bare minerals ONCE. It felt like I had a layer of makeup, or a mask on. Not only that, all it really did was make me look like I had a tan: my skin is white as in porcelain white, no real color to it except my freckles but my cheeks are red and I hate that. I bought the starter kit for $60 from Sephora hoping it would cover up my red cheeks. Now I have the worst breakouts on my face I have EVER had. My entire forehead, my upper lip and all around my mouth is like sandpaper because there are so many bumps. ANYONE with sensitive skin SHOULD NOT use this. I went and bought some Neutrogena oil-free acne wash and it's gone down very little. Hopefully it will get better soon.

awful reaction to this make up
I started using BE about four months ago and at first, I loved it. It didn't feel heavy like most make up and it was great at covering my rosacea. I noticed that my eyes became very dry and just thought, no big deal, it's some of the powder getting into my eyes. During the summer and early fall months I didn't use the Bare Minerals everyday, but now that it's winter, I started using it more. I first noticed my eyelids getting very red, both upper and lower. I stopped using the eye shadow and continued with the face powder only. Last week my right eye became extremely red and my upper lid started to swell. I now have an infection that is so severe, I'm having to use hot compresses on my eye every two hours, antibiotic/anti-inflammatory drops every four hours and I'm on doxicycline twice a day!! The upper and lower lids are very swollen, red and itchy. The white of my eye is flaming red and it's very uncomfortable. I've been to the eye doctor three times in a week! I know it's from the minerals getting into my eyes that caused me to have such a reation. My left eye was on the verge of an infection too. Beware of this make up... I have rosacea and although it didn't bother my skin it certainly has done a number on my eyes!!!!

RUINED MY SKIN
I had absolutely perfect skin. I got the Bare Minerals starter kit for Christmas and used it 3 days before I broke out with a wicked bad rash all over my face and neck. I have had this reaction to a few other cosmetics in the past, but never this bad. I hope I can return it all! I really hope the Bare Minerals company will stop pushing this product as safe since it is obviously far from safe for everyone! I had to take Benadryl last night and I am slathering my face in topical antihistamines to try to stop the reaction. I am still getting bumps even though I haven't used in it a couple days!! This stuff is very dangerous!! Order the free trial kit from TV if you think you want to try this. I am really sad that my boyfriend tried hard to get me something I wanted and I really hope he has the receipt for the kit he purchased for me. Bare Minerals is not the pure and safe product it claims to be. The reaction I am having is really really awful. Best of luck to you all. Try a test spot before you cover your beautiful face in it!!!!

so far so good!
I just finished reading all the horrible reviews and feel fortunate that I have not had the same experience. I was very recently diagnosed with subtype 2 Rosacea and have been getting mild flare-ups on my nose for about 3-4 months now. I changed my whole skincare regime and was given the recommendation to use mineral make-up (I had to stop using my Mac make up, much to my dismay); two of my co-workers use the BE, one of them with rosacea, so I bought the starter kit in mid-December. I love how it feels (very light) and I love the coverage; I use the concealer brush on my flare ups and it does an excellent job of covering. I happen to have very dehydrated skin as well and being able to use a soft brush to apply makeup has been great for that. My skin is now considerably less dehydrated since I've started using a milder cleanser. I am currently searching for other products to complete my regime. My skin is not so sensitive though--I've never experienced itching or burning from any product. Perhaps this is why I have not had the same reactions as most BE users here? Regardless, I will probably search for an alternate mineral makeup line once I run out of my trial kit; even though I am not currently having bad reactions I still don't like the idea of putting harsh chemicals on my face, which could in fact worsen my rosacea.

Bare Minerals Works For Me
I have been using Bare Minerals for about 10 months. It covers the redness on my cheeks and has not caused flare ups. What I like best about this product is that I can put a minimal amount on to cover the redness whereas when I used a liquid foundation it seemed as if I had to put on a lot to get the coverage. And I now seem to have fewer flare ups and clogged pores since I use less. Several other reviews mention an itchy sensation and what I have noticed is that my skin itches only when my face is sweaty or really warm. (Such as taking a walk outside during my lunch hour in the summer.) The sensation does not last long, but it is noticeable. However, since I live in the north, this isn't often a problem for me, even in summer.

Thanks for the warning
I was going to buy this product but was worried about the mineral content, as natural deodorants, especially pure crystal sticks, have bought me out in a rash before. When I was in my forties I developed Rosacea quite badly and was on antibiotics for about a year. This cleared my face up considerably and I also found that camomile based products kept it clear. I'm now 60 years old and people remark on my clear skin which is amazing considering what it used to look like. Unfortunately, the camomile tinted moisturiser that I used to wear is no longer available so any suggestions would be welcome.

CONTACT LENS wearers
I have spent a fortune on BE makeup....I use BE on a daily basis wanting more than anything for it to work like it is described. I started to notice my eyes bothering me almost everyday, I thought well it must be my contacts, I need to change them and put in new ones.. so I thought.. After replacing my lenses I still noticed this horrible irritation and burning in my eyes. I finally went to the eye doctor and he asked me if I was using Bare Escentuals makeup and of course I said yes, he said that the product has tiny gold metallic fibers in it and is damaging your eyes, when you put the makeup on, you are spreading this gold metallic powder into your eyes and it is grinding into your contacts and into your eyes. WOW I was really mad. The reason I was so upset is because Bare Escentuals NEVER DISCLOSES IF YOU WEAR CONTACT LENSES, YOU SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT...I immediately contacted MRS. LESLIE CEO OF BE or at least one of her flunkies that answers all of her emails. They told me that both the burning on my face and my eyes was NORMAL!!!!! and it should disappear in a few days....WHAT? I COULDN'T BELEIVE IT!! and that was all the email back to me said... so again I emailed them back and said so WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST I DO TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM??? their response- well you might want to put Mineral Veil on your face before applying your foundation that should take care of the burning... WELL WHAT ABOUT THE CONTACTS AND MY EYES?? once again they replied well return the makeup then..... UNBELIEVEABLE!! Very poor resolution I AM DISSCUSED WITH THIS COMPANY AND WITH QVC FOR PROMOTING SUCH A MISLEADING PRODUCT TO THERE AUDIENCE AND CUSTOMERS...

Bare Escentuals
The one thing that I noticed from the other reviews is that everyone should try a product for themselves. It is obvious that each person could have a different reaction. I have had rosacea for about 15 years and have tried many many many different cleansers and make-ups. I used a liquid make-up for most of the 15 years and 18 months ago I decided to try bare escentuals. It has been wonderful. I don't have to use as much for coverage of the red areas. During the last 15 years I have had breakouts or dry skin patches that would itch. It seems to be weather related and also heat related to physical activity. I have never been able to fully stop this with any medication that the dermotologist prescribed. With bare escentuals I have not had any more breakouts than before and feel that I have actually had less and the redness has reduced. For me my facial cleanser and full skin care makes the difference not just my make-up. Not every make-up is for every person, but I am thankful this is working for me. I am sure that alot of the other make-ups that did not work for me would possibly work for someone else. I just had to continue to try different products to find the best one for me. Hope you will too.

Best makeup I've used!
Reading all the bad reviews, I had to add a positive one. I was diagnosed with Rosacea 9 months ago and changed my whole skin care routine as directed by the doctor. I had been interested in Bare Escentuals, so I bought the trial kit. The coverage of breakouts is fabulous, and I can wear it overnight if I must (never a good idea!) without reaction. If I put too much on, it can look crepey around the eyes (where my wrinkles are), but that's my fault. I'm sorry for those who have adverse reactions to Bare Escentuals. I've talked to so many people with Rosacea & other skin problems who use it and love it that all of these negative reviews surprised me! I'm glad I tried it for myself, and hope others whom it might help won't be afraid to do so.

Terrible eye problem
I have always had sensitive skin, heard from a friend how great this product is and thought I would give it a try. Yesterday morning, although I had a cold, I went with my daughter to the Bare Essentials Store. After having them apply my makeup, my eyes started to itch. Thought it was from my cold - a new symptom. By the time my daughter was done trying it on and we had lunch at a nearby restaurant, I was miserable. My eyes burned, itched and started to swell. They were extremely light sensitive - I had to put on my husband's sunglasses that were left in his car that I had borrowed. Both eyes started to swell, the left, more so than the right. When we reached home, I tried flushing them out with otc artificial tears, tried cool compresses, warm compresses, my vision blurred, it was like someone had thrown dirty sand into my eyes... I woke up this morning with my left eye matted shut. Flushed both eyes again with the artificial tears. The eyelids are still swollen, still red, still uncomfortable, but better than they were yesterday. Fortunately, I was so miserable that I hadn't yet opened my product - $175 worth, and intend to return it today. If my eyes do not clear within a couple of days, I will need to see an eye doctor for medication. I, too, have rosacea, but will be happy to deal with it as I have in the past and would NEVER advise trying these products. By the way, my friend has been dabbing at her eyes for some time now and says that her doctor says she has "dry eye" and has given her medication for it. I'll be giving her a call and asking if her "dry eye" began shortly after using these products. I was so relieved to see these reports of other people's problems with these products and appreciate the time they took to write them. I read all of them, even as my eyes itched and blurred.

Unbelievable!!
I stumbled upon this webpage as i was desperately trying to figure out how after 30 years of having trouble-free skin, I was just yesterday diagnosed by a dermatologist with having something called "perioral dermititis" ---- a red rash around the mouth -- AND NOW I AM CONVINCED IT IS THE BARE ESSENTIALS. Like all the other postings, I have been using Bare Essentials for nearly nine months and have loved it. However, about two months ago, i got my first breakout around my mouth of little red bumps and near my nose. I have never had any skin disorders before. It eventually went away and I assumed it was just an allergic reaction to something. Then last week, it came back even worse than before. I went to a dermatologist who took one look and said it was classic "perioral dermatitis" and prescribed me metrogel. Unfortunately, the doctor had no real explanation for how this skin disorder is caused. I have spent days trying to research this condition, and now having read the reviews of others who have the same exact experience, I have no doubt that it is the Bare Essentials. I never had early signs so did not think it was the makeup but now conviced and will stop using Bare Essentuals tomorrow! BEWARE ALL!! Any suggestions on what to use if you like Bare Essentials but don't want to kill your skin??? HELP!!

another possible problem
Hi, I really liked using this but.... I have had the worst bumps on my chin.....they started a few weeks after I started using this product.....I thought it was just my rosacea worsening since I had heard this make up was good for sensitive skin. I am going to stop using it just in case this is the culprit....I wish I paid more attention to when the bumps started, but I think it was close to the time I started using this.

bare mineral problems
I was just reading some of the reviews for bare minerals and I cant believe that there are people that experienced the same reaction that I had. I was eager to try this new bare minerals but a day after I tried it I noticed a huge welp and redness above me eye. I also noticed a dark circle under my eye. It almost looked like someone had punched me there. I have never had any reaction to make up before and I was upset that this had happened with a product that claims to be natural and safe for your skin. It even made my pores look like craters. Buyer beware!!!!

AN ESTHETICIAN WITH ACNE?
Yieeks..... I have been using Bare Minerals for the past year and have really loved it! This is until the last month when I have had the worst acne I have ever had.. coupled with other skin issues like redness around the mouth and tiny pustul like bumps near my nose. At 35, I was convinced my great skin days were just ending. Not only now was I having to worry about aging skin, I now had to worry about acne and scarring! After doing everything short of moving out of my house to find the culprit I noticed, the days I was not wearing Bare Minerals, my skin looked better. There you have it. Now I'm trying to do everthing to restore the health of my skin and I'm convinced it is the Bismuth Oxychloride. I have sense moved to a makeup line called Lotus Minerals and have been happy. Good luck to you all! Remeber that you skin has an increadible ability to heal itself. Stop using the Bare Minerals and your skin will thank you. Be Well~ Esthetician Dallas, TX.

I am happy to hear that it is not just me. I tried BE and was pleased at first. Then I noticed my skin became very dry and my eyes are dry, itchy and my eyelids feel tight all the time. I also noticed that my pores started to look very large, something I never had a problem with before. I seemed to need to put a lot of product on to cover the rosacea, which made all the other issues worse. Guess this is one more product headed for the trash!

This is the worst makeup ever! I have never known I had such flaws until using this. It has broken me out all over and the "well rested" is so heavy and so awful that it's like having lead weights on my eyelids. I itch and have redness. It settles and cakes in every fine line or wrinkle. Don't believe the infomercial. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. Save your money and don't be a sucker like I was!

Everyone close to me is using BE now including my co workers. There is a trick to the coverage.... Just keep playing with it till you get the look you desire. When I first used the eye shadows I thought I was allergic to the make up because my eyelids would burn!!! BUT I switched brushes (eyeshadow brushes) to another cheaper brand and no more problems. ~Best wishes to all of you pretty faces!~

Glad I\'m not alone!
I don't have rosacia, but I have had mild acne problems in the past, and more recently, I had to visit a dermatologist because I started getting large painful swollen bumps deep in the skin. These were further irritated because of the CPAP machine I wear at night for sleep apnea. I was prescribed a strong topical antibacterial gel, and it was working. Then I got a Bareminerals starter kit for my 24th birthday. I also happen to have pretty severe vitiligo (loss of pigmentation in the skin, so I have white patches all over my body including my face), and I was hoping that I had found something that would actually make me feel good about my face. Well, at first i loved the makeup - it covered my vitiligo, acne scarring, and redness! It looked great! But after a few days I got a huge blemish - so I just thought it was the stress I was under (my college graduation was a few weeks away!) - so i covered it up with more bareminerals. After a week or two, I noticed even more acne flare ups - I had five or six painful bumps on my chin...it hadn't been that bad in years. Graduation was just a day away, so I was forced to wear the awful makeup for another day. It burned my already aching skin. The day after graduation, I stopped wearing bareminerals and went back to the Revlon Colorstay (which does NOT irritate my skin). It's been about a week, and my skin is almost healed. I noticed that the stuff really clogged my pores - I have huge pores that get clogged easily, and the bareminerals made it worse! I contacted bareminerals, and they told me I could have a refund (rather my mom could have a refund because she bought it for my b-day). They tried to tell me that it was the animal hair brushes that made me break out, not the product. I'm not allergic to animal hair! But at least I'm getting a refund.

I am so very happy to read this. Since BE is not a product that's easy to come by in the Netherlands, I first tried mineral make up off of Ebay. The cheaper version. Had no problems with it whatsoever, loved it and used it for a few weeks ... I just recently purchased the I.D Bare Escentuals Bare Radiance and I honestly thought it was my cleanser that gave me a red rash and burning sensation for the past 2 days (been using it for 3 days). I couldn't figure out what it was. Now it turns out that the allergic reaction was to the tiny bit of bare radiance I used. Thank God I came across this before my skin could get any worse.

Bare Escentuals
I have moderate to mild rosacea. It is mild unless something starts a flare up, then it is moderate. I have been using BE for 5 years now, and I am very pleased with it. I find the coverage to be very natural looking, and love the feeling that I have no makeup on. I have read the reviews posted here, and I am really surprised. It does not trigger a flare up for me, but then we all have different chemistry. I wouldn't use it either if my skin reacted badly. Then, of course you feel angry and cheated. I am only too familiar with that feeling having recently tried a moisturizing product purported to work wonders for people who have rosacea. When it caused me to have the most horrible flare up in my life, I was just livid!! So, there's no question that you should never use it again. However, for those who thought it felt heavy and looked cakey on their skin, I believe the problem could be the application. It takes very little of the foundation powder to do your entire face. After you get the powder worked into the brush, you tap it until you really cannot see any more powder on the brush. It is not the 2 little taps they show on the infomercial. Tap it like you are trying to get all of the powder out. Then it is ready to put on. I seldom have to put any more powder on the brush to complete my makeup. For more coverage, repeat the entire process including the brush taping. Truly, if you can see any powder on your brush it will look and feel horrible on your skin. Being used to liquid foundations, I had to practice quite a bit until I got the idea. Again, I am sorry for all of those who had nasty reactions, it's enough to make you cry and want to hide. Once this bad experience is behind you, try other products carefully. There's probably something out there that's beneficial and not harmful to you. If not, then using nothing is better by far than the misery this caused you.

NASTY RASH !!
Thank God I found this website. I am 48 and have always had compliments on my skin, UNTIL I started wearing Bare Minerals. With all the hype on TV about it, I, too, decided to give it a try because I have very pale skin and it is hard to find a complimentary color with over the counter makeup. Yes, it went on well and it did cover well. I still had a hard time getting the base color perfect, but with all the other colors of blush, etc., I had from Bare Minerals, I finally found a system that I thought looked o.k. Within an hour, I was a bumpy, red mess and my face itched like nothing I've ever felt before. I thought I was having an allergic reaction to something I had eaten, so I took two Benadryl and went about my day. After a few more hours I was still itching and couldn't stand it anymore so off the makeup came. I called the company and they said they couldn't explain what might have happened, but that the allergic reaction was probably something other than the makeup and to give it another try. They said the makeup was "hypoallergenic" after all and that they had had NO reports of any negative allergic reactions. After a couple more attempts and a bottle of Benadryl, I have given all the Bare Minerals away (to someone who can wear them successfully) and will never put them on my face again. I have red, blotchly, bumpy face skin along with a couple areas of tiny bumps with a greenish puss, of which I have never had before. My Dr. said it is definately an allergic reaction and to never use it again - none of it. I just wish the company would admit that not everyone can wear it and that it isn't the "end all" product they say it is. I'm very disappointed. JM in Texas

I LOVE Bare Escentuals! This is the first make-up that I've tried that gives me anything like normal skin tone! It covers all the veins and redness and it stays on all day. It feels like and wonderful, plus it doesn't clog my pores. In fact, all those pesky blackheads seem to be going away!!! If you use this with a good, mild moisturizer (like Avene for sensitive/rosacea prone skin), a mild cleanser (like cetaphil)...I think it works wonders.

Bare Minerals - DO NOT USE!
I bought into the hype and bought Bare Minerals. I loved it, loved the colors, etc. I was a little surprised that toxic metals could be good for your face, but disregarded any concern with all the positive publicity. After 43 years of absolutely no complexion problems, I am now all broke out with red bumps and pimples on my entire face. It is bad. I had no idea it was the Bare Minerals and kept using it. My husband said something is definitely, I do not break out like this. He suspected it was the Mineral make-up. I stopped using it, and have stopped getting new bumps, but will have pimple scars all over my face due to this make-up. I am also wondering if I should get a blood test to see if any of these toxic metals could have leached into my blood. This stuff is absolutely not good for you at all. I hope this doesn't cause cancer or some permanent injury. The company founders will probably cash out their millions and run and hide somewhere. Email me if you are interested in pursuing a class action lawsuit. I created an email address, and will create a Yahoo group so we can organize. Email me at: mineralmakeupproblems@yahoo.com Tammy

Something Better!!!
A friend bought this and was raving, so I thought I'd try it. I ordered it and it was just okay. That was a few years ago, I've been reading all of your reviews and I have to say the very best coverage I get is from a very good quality, professionally matched to my skin tone, liquid foundation applied sparingly with a good quality foundation brush. If you want a lot of coverage and don't want to look like you are wearing make-up, go to the Saks counter, tell them you want Chanel foundation and a Lancome brush. The Saks make-up counter salespeople are fantastic. They don't push a specific brand, they push the very best in each line. Ask them to match it and to apply it for you. You take a TINY drop and feather it on with the brush, then pat a TINY amount of really good quality loose powder (Laura Mercier) with a velvet puff. You will be amazed! I used to use tons of product and the results were horrible! Caked, flakey, greasy, thick coverage that wouldn't last. If you use the technique of Bare Minerals with good quality products I think you'll be as amazed as I was. Oh, I'm also very sensitive to SPFs and have VERY sensitive skin and pretty moderate Rosacea (I use Metrogel and occasional V-Beam laser) and the above works wonders. I use the Biotherm Sensitive cleansers & moisturizers line. Also, don't be frightened by the cost of the products, I buy 1 $50 foundation per year. Stop spending your money trying tons of crap and just go buy the good stuff and use it the way they tell you to.

BEWARE! CAUSED CYSTIC ACNE!
I began to use this product after hearing many raves about it from friends. Prior to the use of this product, my skin had been in the best condition that I had ever seen it. I used it for about a month and a half total and noticed severe acne beginning to form. I didn't think that it could possibly be Bare Minerals considering it's supposed to be "so pure that you can sleep in it". I stopped everything else I was doing and my acne became consistently worse becoming extremely painful around my temples, my cheekbones, and my chin; I knew it had to be Bare Minerals. I stopped using the product and it took well over 2 months to heal. Replacing the acne is now scarring and hyperpigmentation. I have spent hundreds upon hundreds of dollars in an attempt to fix the scarring and hyperpigmentation, and now I have to spend a thousand dollars on laser resurfacing. Due to the condition of my skin (thank you Bare Minerals!), I lost my contract with Ford Models. Now that I see that countless others have suffered from like symptomes, I want to make this story known to all the hopeful individuals out there who want to believe Bare Minerals might work for them. If you have sensitive skin such as I do, do not try this product because you will regret it. I want to file a lawsuit against Bare Minerals for the repayment of all the money I have spent trying to regain my once clear skin.

Bad experience with BM
I too had a terrible allergic reaction with BM. After reading everyone else's experience it is somewhat of a relief to see I'm not th only one who had these problems. I had bumps and itchiness and by the end of the first day I knew something was terribly wrong. I only used one day but it took about 6 weeks for my face to clear up with visit to the dermatologist/steriod cream. It cost me quite a bit of money to "undo" the damage this makeup did. I would not recommend this product to anyone with sensitive skin.

happy with the product
I have so much scar pigmentation from ance when I was younger, I've tried Mary Kay-which made me too made up and cakey. I've tried Almay, Physican Formula, but the coverage was too thick. I'm very attactive and sweat alot, I don't need my make up to melt. I tried Bare Mineral and have been very happy. Actually it has improved my skin tone and complexion. I had dry skin and alot of adult acne and was so happy to see an improvement in only a couple of weeks. I've been using if for about 3 months and wouldn't go back to anything else. I don't have rosacea or any other skin irritants. Even if the the make up says its good for you to sleep in, I don't. I wash my face very well before bed. My experience is a positive one, I sorry to hear others have had a bad experience, then again, we all don't have the same skin type or skin irritants. Hope this review helped.

Also I developed bright red puffy skin under my eyes it was very embarassing. After reading what other women had to say on this site I am going to stop using BM this instant. Too bad - this product is expensive - what a waste of money. Back to using Lancome - not a perfect match to my skin color but at least it dosn't make my skin feel like it's on fire and itching.

Bismuth Oxychloride is an ingredient in BE that lends the pearlescent effect. Research this mineral and you'll see not all is well just because its "non toxic". Most people that have an itchy feeling might want to look at Mica as a problem (also an ingredient in BE).

bare escentuals = bad!!!
soo.. i previously worked for lancome and loved their products but i have very sensitive skin and found occasional breakouts.. so i wanted to try bare escentuals. i've heard the lines its so pure you can sleep in it, so i took myself to a boutique and bought the kit. i have rosacea on my cheeks and very sensitive skin and found the makeup would itch my face within immediate application.. i know from working in cosmetics you skin sometimes has to adapt and the coverage was just so pretty that i really wanted it to work.. i however found that months later my skin is unusually red itchy and covered in tiny little bumps unlike pimples. everyone kept telling me this was a great product but my skin kept turning into a disaster zone! the worst my skin has ever been in my life!!! i wish i could get a refund for all the money and get my old face back! i'm just know switching to jane iredale and seeing a better difference already! i've heard color science is good too.. in my opinion anything is better than bare escentuals!

love the product
I love the stuff. Been using it for months now. My skin has never been brighter and healthy. Sorry to hear all the negative stuff about the product. But it works for me. If I had a very sensitive skin, maybe you should asked the doctors for products that are safe. Those expensive stuff at the department stores were the worst, you had to buy all that stuff that have the same ingredients at rite-aid, target or walmart....who would have thought.

Magic for me!
I'm so sorry to read all the bad reviews for Bare Minerals! It's so true that what works for some, doesn't work for all. Fortunately for me, it works miracles. I'm wondering if it doesn't have to do with the subtype of rosacea you experience. I have never had the kind with bumps or pimples. Mine has always been 'tomato face' as I affectionately call it, and over the past few years, many visible blood vessels. I was actually considering laser treatment to get rid of the blood vessels, but decided to try BE instead. Like I said, I can't say enough about this product. You'd think they were paying me (I wish). I started out with the wrong color (medium) which they say works on most women. It made me look orange. I called the company and they sent me (free of charge) 2 jars of the lighter color (and let me keep the wrong color). It was perfect. I find that it looks much better with the mineral veil, but that's just me. I DON'T use the mineral veil around my eyes though, because it does tend to magnify my wrinkles around my eyes. I've gotten so many compliments on my skin since I started using BE. Someone even said I had peaches and cream skin, LOL. I feel awful that people are having these break-outs, especially considering that I recommend it to ANYONE and EVERYONE. I hope that no one I told experienced these reactions!

allergic reaction
The second time I put the makeup on, I started noticing my face feeling itchy. I took a walk and by the time I came home my arms and body started feeling itchy as well. Followed by my tongue swelling and mouth feeling funny. I immediately took benedryl and started searching the web for reactions to this product. I wish I would have known about this before I considered trying the product!

Itchiness
I just got the starter kit and decided to give it a try since I have nothing better to do today. It was an interesting experience putting it on and it looked pretty cool after I was done; I was pretty happy with the end result with the exception of my face feeling dry. But then about a hour or so later my face started to itch, especially in the areas where I applied more to "conceal." Thinking I might have an allergic reaction to it, I googled "bare minerals allergies" to see if allergic reactions are common and came upon this site. The stories had me a bit worried and the itchiness wasn't subsiding. If anything, it was spreading to other areas of my face. I took off the make-up with my make-up remover. Wow, there was a lot of make-up that came off; more so than with my regular make-up ... I guess a little does go a long way? I washed my face afterwards and water kind of stung my skin! I've never had this reaction after using my make-up remover in the past. *0.o So weird! I washed my face with my cleanser and it didn't stop itching. I did my daily face regimine (lotion and etc.) and my face is still a bit itchy. *0.o I'm hoping that the lotions will help to calm the itchiness and prevent any driness and etc. that others have experienced. I don't know if this is due to the make-up, but other areas of my body are itching. I just thought I'd put this up since others have mentioned full body reactions to the make-up.

Horrible!
I bought this product after being told by Sephora staff that it would be perfect for my skin. My skin is extremely sensitive, very dry, and also very light, which makes the redness more difficult to cover up. I decided that perhaps it was worth the investment and shelled out $60 on the starter kit. The first problem arose when I discovered there was salicylic acid in the primer. Salicylic is horrible for sensitive, dry skin - it dries the face out even more! So I immediately stopped using that product. I continued on with the foundation, warmth powder, and mineral veil, in hopes that those would turn out better. The first problem was that the makeup made my face itch like crazy, and it was even worse when I was sweating. I googled the product to see if anyone else had a similar reaction and, lo and behold, it's quite common! It's due to the ingredient Bismuth Oxychloride, which apparently is an irritant to quite a number of people. The problems continued. I noticed my face was becoming extremely dry. Then the redness in my face got worse [I was finally getting it tamed with Finacea - all that work gone to waste!]. I also began breaking out severely. After this, I decided to stop using the product and return it to Sephora. My skin is still trying to recover from the just-over-a-week stint with Bare Minerals. This saddens me, because it actually did give great coverage and was light enough for my skin, but the problems it caused far outweighed the benefits. This is not a product that should be recommended for sensitive skin and definitely not a product that should be recommended for people with rosacea!

HORRIBLE
I am 22 yrs old and have never had a problem with my skin, about a year ago i started breaking out in really bad cystic acne. i had no clue why then i started researching and found that alot of ppl were suffering from this after using bare minerals, so i quit using it and what do you know the pimples quit coming. i think its horrible they lie to you. i even called them and asked them they suggested i was allergic to the brushes. no that was not it. alough the pimples have stopped happening since i discontinued use of bare minerals, i am left with scars. i would highly recommend that ppl not use this product!!!!

didn\'t work
I tried Bare Minerals. I didn't get a rash (but I didn't use it for more than a day). I found that even their lightest color was still too dark and too yellow for my base skin tone, and no matter how much powder I applied and how long I buffed and buffed, it simply didn't cover my redness. I have tried other mineral powder foundations (Loreal and Neutrogena) and they too just don't cover the redness.

wow
About 10 months ago i got the big expensive kit from QVC (which still send me random products i dont even want and just take it straight out of my bank account) Like everyone else i was mislead into thinking it was going to be the best makeup ever. Don't get me wrong, the makeup itself works pretty good...until your face starts burning and itching and you can actually feel a layer of filth on your face like a mask. I'm still using bare minerals now but not after tonight, all this time of wondering i never thought it was BE! I always had perfect skin no acne, oiliness or dryness. However when i first started using it i had a small breakout from stopping birth control for a month, i went to the dermatologist and he gave me face wash and some gel stuff to get me thru the month. at that same time i started the BE and thought the burning and dryness were from the face wash. I kept having to use more and more BE to cover up the redness it was doing to my skin. And the Alabama heat this summer made it worse, something about when u sweat your face feels like its on fire!!! I also had crusty flakey skin around my eyes and discoloration, my eyes would water nonstop i had to buy waterproof mascara, and the creases would dry out and burn too! (lots of burning lol) After a couple of months i started to get big sore cystic bumps and these little pimple like bumps that look like you can pop them but when u try they swell up and stay for over a week then turn to scabs. I even bought mattress cover things thinking i had bed bugs (now that i think about it i was blind lol) because every morning i would wake up and there would be more whelps because you know you can "sleep in it" . well now my skin is all dry and flaky around my laugh lines and chin but at the same time the BE makes my face look wet, even tho w/o the makeup its not oily. oh and they say its waterproof....don't get me started.... if you sweat it gets this "paint-y" look and gets stuck on ur lips, you end up looking in the mirror and u have white lips. When my fiance would kiss me he would have white ashy looking lips (kinda embarrassing) and its not easy to get off for some reason. by the end of the day u end up looking like u smeared muddy water on ur face. but i blamed that on the 110 degree summer we had. i can't believe how many people have had the exact same reactions!!! i'm breaking out the old clinique cause i never had problems with it. i wish i knew exactly which one it was that is giving everyone problems because i like the warmth and the mineral veil (i have bumps on my chest tho and i put warmth there!) oh yeah and the facial cleanser felt like it was acid eating my face away lol ...it never ends. I'm glad i found all this out before my wedding i would have been such a pissed bride! i wanted bare minerals to work since i spent soooo much on it i have like 4 packages of it i haven't even opened (the whole QVC thing again).....anyone wanna buy some BE LOL! Anyways thanks for all the posts you guys saved my skin! haha and as i say goodbye the BE infomercial comes on lol...DON'T LISTEN TO THEM I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN TO BEGIN WITH!

Roman Candle
Oh, the horror. Wore BM makeup for the second time to a job interview. A sadder but wiser girl am I. I lit up, thought it was from being nervous, but days later, and multiple face washings later, my skin is still burning. I appreciate all the comments others have made. The next time I even attempt to buy makeup, I'm going to have it applied by some nice cosmetic person and give it a day or two, instead of rushing in and spending $150 to look like Woody Woodpecker. (I got the job anyway.)

Bare Minerals
Bought this on the advise of friends who love it. After about one hour, the itching began. I wanted to love this product - but it didn't work for my skin at all. They applied the makeup at the store - and I haven't opened the starter kit yet. I'm returning it today (there is a 30 day return policy). I have somewhat sensitive skin, but no makeup I've ever tried has given me this rather extreme reaction. Seems somewhat ingenuous to advertise this as "pure" given the number of reactions people have had to this makeup. Proceed with caution on this one - it definitely has an allergin hidden in it's "natural" makeup.

great coverage, causes bumps
Like many on this forum, I bought BE because I wanted for cover the red but I have thick liquid/cream foundation. I just bought one brush and the loose foundation for my really fair skin. The coverage is GREAT, application QUICK. It requires very little product and lasts forever. The down side is that I think it tends to accentuate your pores and it take about 15 minutes to equilibrate with my skin and not look like a mask/power. However, many months into wearing BE it started thinking my skin looked bumpy, (just a little). But I convinced myself this it was minor and that no one else could really see it. Then at a routine Dr. visit my physician asked if she could proscribe me something of the acne on my forehead. I was horrified and asked if it was really that bad. Her response was to tell me that it was a new condition for me, sometimes our skin changes as we age, and the yes she recommended I treat it. I did not treat it, rather I stopped using all products on my face an slowly reintroduced them (a typical rosacea suffer'spath). With out a doubt it is the BE that causes the bumps. I love the coverage and simplicity of the stuff so much that from time to time over the last several years I have pulled out the BE and tried to use it again. I only finally threw it out two months ago, and I miss it sometimes. I have tired other mineral make, particularly ones with out the fillers like mica and one other culprit I can't remember. None of these have caused skin reactions, but none give great coverage either. - Addicted... Incidentally, I have tired tinted Zinco by Linda Sy? Great coverage but dries out the skin above my lip.

covers the red w/o caking
I don't even want to contemplate the amount of money i've spent on makeup, primarily foundations, trying to find one that a) doesn't irritate my skin further and b) will cover up my bright red cheeks! My derm. and a plastic surgeon both recommended trying Bare Minerals and since there was a special on it ($45 for the 'starter' set), I decided it couldn't hurt. When I first brushed it on it looked like I had applied three layers of powder, but once the natural oils in my skin worked with the minerals it really did have the advertised "flawless" finish. It took me a few tries to get the amount just right, but once I did, it looked great and I had cut about 10 minutes off the time it usually took me to get my makeup on. The stuff lasts forever and for me, it's worth the additional price over drugstore makeup.

Cystic acne too!
I am so relieved to read these reviews. I have used Bare Minerals for 5 months - it is kind of cakey and shiny, which I don't like. But worst of all, I think now I am able to say, after reading these reviews and noting the remarkably similar experiences of others, it has worsened my acne severely! I was a long time ago diagnosed with mild rosacea (hadn't had a flare in years, until recently?) and acne, which had been under pretty good control prior to using Bare Minerals with a pimple here and there every few months. Well, I can now correlate my skin worsening back to when I started using Bare Minerals. I started getting really bad cystic acne on my chin, nonstop - meaning, I have not been free of cysts on my chin since starting the product! Also, about a little over a month ago, I started getting these weird-looking bumps on my forehead and my cheek area - they are tiny bumps, some are red and some look like whiteheads, but they are different from regular acne - I went to a dermatologist and he thought I had sebaceous gland hyperplasia. He was perplexed because I started seeing him months ago when I first started breaking out like this and he had me on doxycycline and topical medication, to no avail. My skin isn't dry like a lot of people, but oily. I am stopping this makeup tonight. What a shame--my mother and grandmother spent $150 on my birthday on all of this makeup. I am just hoping this clears up. I too used to have very nice skin (controlled very well with my previous acne medications) and now I have ugly hyperpigmentation and some scars on my chin and I'm 36 years old - how embarrassing. I'm just hoping now that I've discontinued this makeup my skin will clear. What false advertising this company employs!

Thank you
I am so thankful I have found this post. I have been searching and searching to find out why I have these horrible red dry patchy areas with bumps all the way around my mouth. I have been using BE for 6 months and thought it was the dry winter weather that was causing this. It is helpful to finally find this posting and read so many others that have had the same problem. Bye, Bye BE! Sparks, NV

Horrible results over time
I started using Bare Minerals in the Winter of 2004. I had perfect skin, not oily, not dry, never had acne, no redness, nothing. Bare Minerals covered perfectly, made my skin look flawless, and the warmth was the perfect color. It looked like I wasn't wearing makeup. I absolutely adored it. Around the summer of 2005, my cheek started turning red, with pimple-like small bumps all over my cheek, my jawline, and my forehead. I attributed it to the heat (I live in Texas) and sweating. I did have the stinging irritation occasionally from the roughness of the brush, but I didnt think much of it
