Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer

Not really for sensitive skin.
I have Rosacea as well as very dry flaky skin. I found that this moisturizer in fact did not really moisturize...I also found that it was quite fragranced for something that is supposed to be suitable for very sensitive skin. I can somewhat use it on areas of my face that is not affected by Roasacea, or on my neck, but that's about it.

Makes face burn
I also found this to be heavily fragranced. It would sometimes trigger rosacea flare-ups. It also burned and stung when I put it on. I had to toss it out.

Not for sensitive skin/noses
Turned me red upon application (though all lotions do, initially) and remained noticeably heavy/greasy all day. I have a sensitive nose, but this was a little more unpleasant than most scented products - like bug spray. A little too heavy to comfortably apply makeup over, and did not lessen redness after 4 months of twice-daily use. Gave it a fair trial, then I tossed it.

fragrance is a bad thing
This product makes the flare-ups even worse because of its fragrance and alcohols. Please do not use it , and help it to trigger your symptoms. I had known this until I used this for atleast a week.

Good for my Lupus related red
I have used this product for almost 3 weeks, twice daily and it is great for me. I have a lot of Telangiectasia and this product has visibly reduced the redness - actually there are many times when it is almost completely gone. I have suffered with red cheeks for a long time and now I feel like I do not suffer anymore. I am 41 and have paid particular attention to my skin since being diagnosed with Lupus. Some of the redness might be old sun damage but either way, this product works for me. I have very sensitive skin and often break out in hives when applying lotion of any type. This product does not cause hives and it doesn't burn or make my skin too dry. I have actually stopped wearing foundation all together and just put on a little bronzer and I am beautiful. Hope your experience is as good as mine.

Immediate severe reaction
I do not recommend this product for rosacea sufferers. It caused an immediate, severe flair up of my rosacea. It had been dormant for 2 weeks. I think it is the sun screen chemicals that are the problem.

I got more red using this!
I used this product for a long time and it made things worse. It got more red when applied and did not seem to help at all. I have now been using Good Skins All Calm at Kohls and it is wonderful! There is also a money back guarentee!

Works okay for me for the $
I recently discovered that I had rosacea, seemed to hit with a bang in the last few years (I'm 31 years old and breastfeeding, so I can't do medication at this point). After years of using Neutrogena bar and Oil of Olay I couldn't do it anymore...my skin got so red and tight, so a co-worker suggested the AVEENO ultra-calming. She actually recommended the shitake mushroom version but I found this version works better. However I can't use the overnight cream (causes acne breakouts on me) and the daily moisturizer isn't quite enough, so I've had to piggy-back it with MD formulations moisture defense antioxidant lotion (at a whooping $50 an ounce!) With both of these lotions my skin is still a bit pit and slightly tight, but it feels much better and looks much better.

Didn't help redness
I tried Aveeno Ultra-Calming Moisturizer because I read on the packaging that it was supposed to help with redness and sensitive skin. Although I found the moisturizer to be pleasant enough, it did nothing for the redness on my face. I tried the product for at least 6 weeks with no results.

Made a difference for me.
I have no bumps, just flushing flare ups and skin that has been getting steadily more ruddy over the years. As for the product, I could do without the fragrance, but its not bad. If you do not wash your hands after you use it, you'll end up touching your eyes and getting them irritated. So wash your hands. I use prescription finacia, but after a year on that it seemed to be loseing the battle. The Aveeno seems to work well with the finacea, which burns and tingles badly on the way in. I use Avveno UC in the morning, finacia at 11pm and Aveeno UC at night. I've been on this routine for three weeks and it has noticibly reduced base redness and it cuts down on the severity and duration of flare-ups. Not a cure all, but I'm glad its here.

I like it
I've tried many different facial moisturizers. I've had Rosacea since I was eight years old and it's gotten worse over the years. I can't afford lazer, so maintenance is my only option. I found that with use over time, the Aveeno evened out my skin tone and did keep the redness somewhat calmed down. I like it during most of the year, but Maine winters are harsh and I need something a little heavier for that time of year. I'm still using this moisturizer and probably will stick with it.

Stay Away!!!
I have terrible dry skin and this caused my face to turn red and swollen, it was miserable...strangely the only thing that provided relief was my liquid make-up.

Works for us.
I'm a 55 F - rosacean all my life. My DS/23 a redhead w/rosacea. Been the Metrogel route for years, but when they "upped" the strength - don't like it at all - no longer cooling and soothing to either of us. Had a coupon for this product when it first came out - HOPING it would be soothing - and it is! MUCH LESS flare-ups of the dreaded burning face. I'm here reading suntan lotion reviews HOPING for a good one - can't find what we consider to be THE BEST - which is Banana Boat's FACES - oil free. Must be discontinuing or something. At least the Aveeno has SOME sunscreen - but would prefer 30.

Daily VS. Night
I found that the daily Ultra-Calming did not work for me either. I found that any daily moisturizer with SPF in it had my skin flare up burn and become very sore. I found the the Ultra Calming Night cream actually has worked very well for me. I also used it during the day. Just not as much since it is a very heavy moisturizer. I recommend the night Ultra-Calming cream for sure!

Worked at first then BACKFIRED
When I was first diagnosed with my rosacea, I started using this moisturizer daily and I was so pleased with the results. I was also taking antibiotics at the time, so I'm not sure if the reduction of redness I saw was a result of this product or my meds. A few months ago, I started noticing that this moisturizer makes my skin BURN, and I felt like I was sweating it out of my pores within minutes of applying it! I'd only feel relief after I applied make-up. My skin is VERY sensitive and has been my whole life before my rosacea flared up almost 2 years ago, so it may just be me and not the product. I finally switched to Eucerin, and not only has the burning stopped, but my skin has IMPROVED - everyone in my family has made comments saying as much.

Long term results
I reviewed above and rated it a 4 about four months ago. Since then I have stopped using finacea entirely and started using the UC night formula as well as the day formula. I also cut o0ut caffine, which was a trigger for me. My symptoms have nearly dissapeared and my overall complexion has improved. After visiting family recently I compared a group picture from this year with the group picture from last year and was startled by the difference. Last year I had the reddest face in the group of 20 and this year I look totally normal.

My dermatologist gave me samples of the Aveeno Ultra Calming moisturizer & within minutes my face turned red & by the next morning my rosacea had flared up, bright red, with bumps etc. It definitley does not do what it claims to do and was not calming.

Rosacea Subtypes
Subtype 1: Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea
characterized by flushing and persistent redness, and may also include visible blood vessels.
Subtype 2: Papulopustular rosacea
characterized by persistent redness with transient bumps and pimples.
Subtype 3: Phymatous rosacea
characterized by skin thickening, often resulting in an enlargement of the nose from excess tissue.
Subtype 4: Ocular rosacea
characterized by ocular manifestations such as dry eye, tearing and burning, swollen eyelids, recurrent styes and potential vision loss from corneal damage.

Rosacea Stages
Pre-Rosacea
the first cardinal sign of rosacea: blood vessels dilate to more stimuli, open wider and stay open for longer periods of time compared to normal persons. No visible damage can normally be seen.
Mild Rosacea
begins when the facial redness induced by flushing persists for an abnormal length of time - usually 1/2 an hour or more after a trigger. Those who have frequent pre-rosacea flushing are highly susceptible to progressing to mild rosacea. Some of the common triggers for a facial flush are heat, cold, emotions, exercise, topical irritants and allergic reactions.
Moderate Rosacea
as facial flushing becomes more frequent and intense, vascular damage occurs. This can result in long lasting redness, swelling and inflammatory papules and pustules. Telangiectasia (damaged micro blood vessels, often visible on the surface of the skin) may be noticed in the areas where flushing is worst.
Severe Rosacaea
characterised by intense bouts of facial flushing, severe inflammation, facial pain, swelling and burning sensations. Sufferers may develop intolerance to products they were able to use before. Also inflammatory papules, pustules and nodules may be present. Some experience a bulbous enlargement of the nose, known as rhinophyma. This is just a guide, you may of course experience symptoms outside these ranges.
