Coconut Oil
I just smothered my face in Emerald Laboratories Extra Virgin Certified Organic Coconut Oil (No refinement, 100% pure) after taking an ice cold shower and using Cetaphil gentle cleanser. I was put on metrocream and this metrocream appears to have completely screwed my face up by making it extremely dry and cracking/scaling and also it created papules. I will post my results with the Coconut Oil.

Well I left it on overnight, and it did nothing but cause my face to burn. It also got in my eyes and i'm having trouble seeing right now as I type this. It SEEMS to have very very slightly reduced the redness. However I cannot prove that it did anything at all. I'll keep using it and report.

Coconut oil does not cause the skin to burn. It doesn't cause my skin to burn nor does my husband's or that of the people I personally know who use it on their skin. You can read pages of reviews on Amazon, and elsewhere on the net, and will not find one person saying that coconut oil caused their skin to "burn." Actually, if anything, the oil has a rather calming effect.
Also, the coconut oil will not reduce the redness caused by seb derm overnight. It will take several weeks of uninterrupted treatment on face, scalp and ears, to get rid of symptoms and keep seb derm at bay.
Incidentally, you said that you "smothered" your face in the oil, well, that's exactly the opposite of what you are supposed to do. Coconut oil should be applied thinly to avoid saturating the skin and limiting absorption.

Hi there Auburn
Sorry to disagree with you, but coconut oil did irritate my skin too when I tried it. I can use it on my body, just not my face.
I guess some of us are just more sensitive than others.

Just to clarify,
I dont think there is anything wrong with coconut oil. But when skin becomes crazy hypersensitive, it seems any substance has the possibility to irritate, even just plain water.

Hi Leesah,
When you say that it irritated your skin, do you mean that the oil actually caused your skin to burn?
You see, because of its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, I have applied coconut oil to raw spots on my face (this summer, a branch scraped my left cheek and temple) with no burning or stinging. The oil was rather calming and the scrapes healed quickly.

Hey Auburn,
I dont think I should answer that, it might make you sad. I think you love your coconut oil too much to hear it.
In my experience, really really sensitive skin can be set into inflammation so easily, even by great products. Sometimes the only thing left to do is just leave it alone for a while.

What I found was that when I used the coconut oil it made myseb derm worse after a couple of days.
Pyramid as Auburn said only use a little of the oil and perhaps just try it on one side of your cheek

You mentioned that, in another coconut oil thread, a while ago, and I've been meaning to ask you, How did the oil make your seb derm worse? Did you apply it to face, scalp and ears? How long did you leave it on? Do you remember what brand of coconut oil you were using?

As Sarah suggests, use sparingly.
I used to go red if I put coconut oil (or jojoba oil) straight on my face. Try using not too much and apply with wet hands to a wet face.
Nuts are a good thing but eat a whole lot of them and you become fat.
Good luck.
