Default Ocular Rosacea

Low dose Accutane can be used as a treatment option for severe ocular rosacea. For persistent severe cases of ocular rosacea that are resistant to antibiotics, Dr. Albert Kligman prescribes low dose Accutane (10mg) 3 times a week (Mon. Wed. Fri.) for about 2 to 3 months. Once the disease is under control the dosage is then tapered to 10mg on Saturdays and Sundays, and finally to a dosage of 10mg on Sundays. Low dose is the key. Too much Accutane can exacerbate ocular symptoms. To counter the dry eye symptoms associated with Accutane, some opthalmologists use tear plugs as a temporary measure. I hope you find a treatment option that works for you. Find a good derm, or opthalmologist who is knowledgeable about Accutane as a treatment option for ocular rosacea. Good Luck. KIM

Googoo - so good to hear from you! I remember you took low dose Accutane for several years with good success. Thanks for keeping in touch.

Brighteyes,

What supplements did you take/try? Granted supplements aren't going to cure Rosacea, but they can be helpful. My Dr. says supplements are great if there are deficiencies. However, some of us with GI/Digestions issues may have problems absorbing nutrients, including vitamins. My Dr. feels that I may be a little deficient in some areas due to this. Since supplementing with digestive enzymes and HCL - my digestion is much better. Grape Seed, Pycnogenol, and Tumeric are really good supplements and anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatories. I've seen good articles on-line - they aren't scam.

Good luck.

Regards,

Yvette

Thanks Yvette! I've tried all of the above-mentioned supplements and read the "research" online. I'm sure that supplements aren't bad for you and are probably even beneficial to overall diet/health but they do nothing for my rosacea - but if they work for you thats great! I'm not trying to dissuade anyone else from using supplements - I just think for me supplements are a waste of money.

Hi brighteyes,

That's cool. You are right that some things work for some and not for others. Finding the "mix" that works is key - often trial and error.

Thanks for updating us - chat soon.
